Will there be a ‘Tiger in your tank’ displayed there?

Re: Pontiac Widetrackers "Dustoff" show - June 11, 2022

Ran into an old friend today:

This car belonged to my dad. He rescued it from a field in Oregon, intending to make a Super Duty clone out of it. Unfortunately he passed before he could make that particular dream a reality.

When he passed he gifted it to our friend Ed Lear. Ed has been working on it all along and now has it in driveable condition.

It proved to be popular, too, as Ed won his class today.

I probably haven't seen this car in 17 years.

You sure don't see those old Tempests anymore. Obviously that car is modified but didn't they have a transaxle set up and a 326 engine from factory?

^ I'd bet that those are some of the mods you're asking about. I wouldn't expect to see anything less than a total aftermarket frame under this car. They weren't any different from a Chevy Nova of that era; just sheet metal folded over and welded a few times.

I have two.

Yes - that one was a business coupe (no back seat). It now has a dual quad 389 and solid rear axle. It's a ladder bar rear suspension attached to a sub frame/roll bar construction.

This one is a 326 with two speed auto and the swing axle intact. It also shows what Ed can do when he puts his mind to it.

Re: Pontiac Widetrackers "Dustoff" show - June 11, 2022

I have not mentioned here much that I was a big Pontiac fan when I was younger.
I have a 67 Tempest 2 dr post coupe, I removed the 326 2 speed, and had a friend who built Pontiacs build me a 428, also have a t-400 in it and a 12 bolt 3.31 gears.
Had it running enough to realize I had a great combination mechanically, it seemed very strong. We rebuilt the front suspension, added front disc brakes, and detailed the front half of the frame. The front clip is in black primer, the rest of the body is original paint, kind of an aqua blue/green.
Unfortunately at the time I ran out of body and paint and interior money so I parked it in my shop, time went on and I kind of lost interest. 25 years later it is still there!
I have recently retired and have been thinking about getting it running again and putting it on the street. Seeing that old Tempest on the street is inspiring to me. Sometimes an Old car with freshened up mechanicals is kind of an attention getter, at least to me it is. Thanks

I had a '66 Le Mans that I put a 400 Cu In RA III in and then blew it up driving across the Nevada desert at ludicrous speed, in '75. I rebuilt it later and it ran mid-13s in the 1/4. I sold it way too cheap in '77.

Sorry to double back on this older thread but they also could be had with a four cylinder.

It was pretty remarkable because the 4 cylinder engine was actually a v8 Pontiac chopped in two. It even used a regular Pontiac V8 cylinder head.
