59 VIN format

Dear All, SOrry for the annoying question but can someone tell me what the VIN on a 1595 should look like and where I can find info to decode?

THanks,
Mark

Re: 59 VIN format

series
11 Starts with H59
12 Starts with G59
31 Starts with 3A59
32 Starts with 3B59
34 Starts with 3C59
35 Starts with 3D59
36 Starts with 3F59
38 Starts with 3G59

The letter after the 59 is the factory city
the rest is a production number

So a 3A59Sxxxxxx is a 31 series 1959 1/2 ton made in St Louis

Re: 59 VIN format

Thanks Very much. The VIN in question starts with a V. I assume this means it came originally with a V8?

Re: 59 VIN format

Thanks very much Dave! I just found this truck and its a beauty. SHort fleet with a big back window and the hydromatic four speed auto. I have always been a 60-66 guy, but this truck and in particular this body style has converted me big time.
