I saw this price tag on a vintage Delco Oil Filter.

Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

I remember filling the gas tank of my 68 Camaro in 1978 for $8.00 and I thought that was too expensive ! I worked at a Ziebart rust proofing company and they charged me $10.00 when I did my own car ,I'll bet that car is still rust free with as much as I shot into it !

IF you can find them, they are substantially more now, naturally...

Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

RockAuto prices
PF35L: $8.06 each or $4.63 if you buy 12 of 'em
PF35 vintage (the white one shown above): $12.99 each

I run the PF35L's, ACDelco calls them High Efficiency but I remember the first place I saw them was in the GM Performance Parts book

Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

This thread made me dig out the two NOS filters I had stashed away. I guess they call the white filters 'Classic' not vintage. Both are PF35's, darn camera flash.

Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

Is there not a difference between 1218s and 35s? I had heard there is, but I can't remember what it is supposed to be.

PF1218's have a nylon core, use cellulose filter media, have an anti-drain back valve and are a bit shorter so they hold less volume.
The PF35L uses micro glass filter media and holds a full quart.

The old issue filter appears longer than the recent issued filter.

Yeah, both the newer PF35 & PF35L filters are a bit shorter than the old school PF35

Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

They were probably made in the USA back then, and worth the price. A $9.99 ACD filter today is a waste of 10 bucks.

Whatever you decide to do, AVOID the E-Core AC Delco garbage filters that they have been pushing on the general public for 8 years.

Relatively speaking filters are no more expensive now than in thre 70s or 80s . People pay 5 bucks for a cup of coffee now

Talking Re: AC Delco PF Cost back in the day ...

The $4.80 list price in 1971 would be like spending $31.39 in 2021 dollars. Even AMSOIL synthetic media filters are not that much.
