T-5 swap woes

I have a 1968 short bed stepside. When the old 307 went, I put in a new crate 350 and a T-5 trans. The T-5 was said to be WC, the front part was out of a Camaro and the tail was from an S10. When it fired up for the first time I was so pumped. Music to my ears. When my mechanic friend told me to go ahead and put it in gear just to see if it rolls, it kept popping out of first. He looked everything over and later pulled the trans and opened it up. He said it all looks fine except 1st gear is noticeably worn. I mean ....bad. So now the search is on and everywhere we've looked, nobody has this first gear. Or those who say they have it online don't answer after waiting for the part for weeks. Anyone have any suggestions? Now I will say this, my mechanic friend has been doing the legwork of trying to track one down so I don't know who he's tried and who he hasn't. Seems we've come to a roadblock with the project.

Re: T-5 swap woes

I typed in T-5 transmission 1st gear in ebay and found these:

https://www.ebay.com/i/124345886003?...BoCcMkQAvD_BwE

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...+gear&_sacat=0

https://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-1st-Gear...UAAOSwSw1cq9OL

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1ST-GEAR-MA...oAAOSw9gRaMDNz

Of course you have to make sure of the tooth count, application, etc, but there are parts out there.

WC? Did you have to purchase the 2 halves of the trans separately?

Re: T-5 swap woes

There are 2 types of t-5. The “WC” stands for world class. The wc trannys are supposed to b able to take more torque. Parts are still made for them and the s10 version has the tail shaft and shifter location that will work better with these trucks. If u have or locate a shop that sells tremec trannys, they can get u the correct gear. Most of them have been used/abused from time so it’s not surprising u have this problem. It’s usually 2nd that goes out.

Thanks, I thought it was some text slang thing.

Thanks - I'll forward this to him. Like I say, not sure what he's checked out already but I do appreciate your help.
