8 lug steelies?

I have 16x6's but I am really wanting wider wheels. Obviously the ones that accept the factory caps I have.. Where can I get a set rather then digging through the wrecking yard bins..

Re: 8 lug steelies?

You won't find wider 16" steelies in a junk yard. They are an item produced currently and not until fairly recently. Wheel Vintiques produces them in 8" and 10". One wider 16" steelie you will find are the 7" Ford Accurides. You have to be careful to assure you have found the 6.5" lug pattern and not the later metric one. If it has the Accuride stamp they are SAE.

I had to rob these off my '95, so they are dark grey to match that one's grille. But, you can still get an idea of the slightly wider depth

I've include a picture on my '92 in argent with hubcaps for a better reference

God that's a beautiful pickup. Mines had a rougher life then that! Truck was built in Fremont and delivered to Bigelow Chevrolet of Aberdeen Washington. I guess it was purchased and then s big camper and a boat/trailer where thrown on and she was the camping rig. A note on the spid says she got a new 350 motor in 1979, when I got it it had a 68 327 in it... She's been around the block. It was parked in a carport in the early 90's and used like 5 times for dump runs. Last time it moved was 2011. I got it a year ago and I'll be damned, everything worked almost perfectly. I drove it home the day I bought it with bias ply tires on it. It was awesome and the saddle interior is mint too! Seats junk but that's a minor detail... anyway I rebuilt a spare 350 and threw it in and did brakes and had need drivin the hell out of it! Put the stock type wheels on it and am slowly making the truck more optioned. It doesn't have power brakes or power steering but I'm fixin that! A stuck slip yoke just killed my eaton so I am currently putting a BB Dana 60 3:54 in it

Re: 8 lug steelies?

I bought my truck off the original owner who bought it to be his work truck in his small family roofing business, he was the only person to ever drive the truck and he garaged it every night. The truck was never used past October so it never saw snow or salt. I do have power steering on mine, but no power brakes. I suppose if I was doing heavy hauling on a regular basis I'd want them but she stops pretty darn good without them. I have the original split rims on mine but I'm considering something a little wider for the back of the truck. I gotta find a rim that will allow me to retain the original hub caps.. Is your truck an auto or 4 on the floor? Mines a 4 speed.

Sounds like my trucks story. Work it a few months and park it fot the rest of the year. October 31 is the last day out for it.

Re: 8 lug steelies?

Power brakes don't make the brakes any stronger, they make it take less pedal pressure from the driver. If you need to stop, like right now, either way you put all you have onto the pedal...with same results.

A lot of guys back then didn't feel a truck should have the comfort and convenience items from cars that had recently been introduced to trucks.

Re: 8 lug steelies?

Just thought I'd add. I have a set of the wheel vintiques 8 lug steelies in 7" wide and they accept the stock hubcaps beautifully.

What did you order for back spacing ? The back look to have some dish to them.

Another set of 16x7 F-250 wheels. No caps on my K20 but the nubs are there.

Re: 8 lug steelies?

Why do people call these Ford wheel van wheels (more often I am seeing "late van" wheels) when they also came on F250s and F350s? It's misleading because, although vans didn't go to metric, late van wheels have no nubs. They either came open or with wheel covers. Those are great for running GM center caps from 88-up till they bumped their head and went metric.

The backspacing is 4X4 on all four rims. I think its the camera angle that gives the effect that the rears have more offset. This pictures shows the backspacing on the fronts. For whats its worth the Summit P/N WVI-82-680804.

Re: 8 lug steelies?

There was also a 6.75" x 16.5" with 9.50-16.5 tire option for heavier load ratings. I did not know this until I started to sand blast rims and notice two were different.

Our truck came from the factory with 16" split rims, it had (2) split rims and (2) 6.75" x 16.5" on it when we bought it. I bought (2) more 6.75"x 16.5" and found a spare I had that was 6.75"x 16.5" I had (5) 9.50-16.5 tires mounted. (local tire distributer had 16.5" tires in stock)

I also had a flat on a 16" split rim on our '66 and same tire distributer fixed it no questions asked. (This is a large tire distributer with retail and commercial sales center, Zurcher Tire in Monroe, IN)

I really like the look of those rims and hub caps. I am going to sell my dick cepek rims and go back to steel rims this winter.

Would you say your rims from summit very closely resemble factory rims ?

They're close but not exact. The Vintiques do not have the 4 slot openings like the originals (that's what I notice most) and I think the factory's have more backspacing.

The original 8's had been removed from my truck before I purchased the truck so I'm not 100%

Somebody that's more familiar with the factory 16.5X8's please chime in.

For what its worth, I think the 16.5's were 8.25 not 8... Had a set on my 72 Super, and Im 99% sure they were 8.25... Had 31x10.50 16.5's on it...

This was posted elsewhere on the board earlier this week. $90 per wheel shipping included. That's a tough deal to beat.
