Re: c30, how to pass California emissions

Just curious. Is the truck checked to make sure it has all the original equipment on it? Or do they just test your exhaust to make sure it doesn’t put out more emissions than a factory 79’ would put out. I only ask because what if the truck had been swapped to an LS or something fuel injected? It could put out less emissions than a factory 79’ with a 454. Would it still pass?

Re: c30, how to pass California emissions

It needs all the original smog equipment it came equipped with. There's a check list the tech goes through. If you swap to a later engine, you still need all the smog equipment for that particular engine, and then you have to go to a BAR referee. He/she will test your vehicle and place a sticker on it. This lets any future smog tech know the engine has been approved and tested by said referee.

Wow okay. That’s quite the process.
