Re: Dad's tools!
I know the feeling! It's why I've been setting up my stepson with his OWN tools and toolbox.

Re: Dad's tools!
I had set up a set of tools in a kitchen drawer and it's still there. But now that I
am single there is no other person factor (except sons at times). I have tools and such where I know I'll need them. Tape, scissors, pens, pads, etc. I have the tools where I need them. I have a hammer next to my utility sink, just inside the one shed, in a tool box along the slab outside the barn, in the truck. Tapes, too. I'll wonder what a measurement is and a tape is always close by

Re: Dad's tools!
I only just read this post. I found it while looking in a search looking for advice on where to go for the best tools on a budget and got sidetracked.
My brother will actually get all my Dad’s tools and ‘36 Ford pickup (no hard feelings, it’s the way it’s supposed to be and I’m a Chevy girl anyway). But He’ll probably set aside a good chunk of his ridiculous collection of Snap-on tools for me especially since I’m actively working on my truck. He’s always sending bits and pieces to my husband as it is. When I was growing up he had a set of the pearl handle Snap-on screwdrivers in his sock drawer for household repairs and I would always sneak in and use them and get in so much trouble when I wouldn’t put them back. He gave them to me as a wedding present. Just the other day when I was getting ready to rebuild my carb I had my daughter take a pic of me pretending to use the pearl handles to do the job because I KNEW he would zoom in and notice. took all of 2 seconds before he was texting me back about it!!! I thought I would get him so good, but he knew I would know better! No idea why the pic is sideways, nothing I can do on my end. Last edited by LockDoc; 09-13-2021 at 10:14 AM. Re: Dad's tools!
Good thread and good stories. My dad is still with us and has retained all of his tools - probably overkill for the condo, but that's ok. He bought me Craftsman straight-blade and phillips-head screwdrivers when I was about 6 and cut my name into them with one of those little buzzy engravers. I just retired them about a year ago since I have plenty of screwdrivers and don't want to lose them.

Re: Dad's tools!
My dad always accused us two boys of the same thing of not putting tools back where they belong although I think he was just as guilty. In the late 60's I bought him a limited edition set of gold plated Craftsman screwdrivers. He never used them or even opened the package. I got them back when he died years ago. They are still unopened and hanging on my shop wall as a reminder to put stuff back where it belongs.

Re: Dad's tools!
I rearranged my little shop to make a space for my grandson. Ive been buying him tools for Christmas and Bdays. Or if I find some at work on sale. Here he is back when I was cleaning up all my visors giving me a hand.

Re: Dad's tools!
My grandfather worked as a Cadillac mechanic most of his life in Lexington KY. His Snap On toolbox now resides in my Dad's garage along with a few other items relating to his time as a Cadillac mechanic.
Taped to the inside of the lid is his 1942 Red Cross card from when he gave money or blood during WWII. The last pic is of my daughter and me in my garage about ten years ago. She's 13 now and is now more interested in the stuff that mom does, but that's OK.

Re: Dad's tools!
Yeah, I've got a couple of leather bound shop manuals from the early 1930's that were his. They cover the Cadillac V16, V12, and V8's of that era.

Re: Dad's tools!
Still such a good thread. Since I posted in September of 2019 we lost my FIL and I got all his tools as well. The tool box has been cleaned up but I am still sorting through the tools, two brief case tool boxes he used for work (IBM mainframe, check sorter, and printer work), and two old tackle boxes.
I have taken a few of the tools and added them to my son's pile and have even used a few as they have been nice additions to mine. Was fixing a water leak over Labor Day weekend and thanked him out loud for the small pipe wrench I used.

Re: Dad's tools!
When my FIL went into the nursing home my wife and I had to clean out his house and put it up for sale that was one of the hardest things my wife had to do. My son and I spent countless hours packing up his tools for my son they are now safely stored in 4 huge boxes in the basement. Now my dad passed away in 97 I have very little of his tools he was worse than a kid leaving them on one piece of equipment or another and loosing them.

More stuff that's in my Grandfather's tool box. The NOS Caddy visor mirror is cool.
