Green Berets, John Wayne

I just watched this movie for the um-teenth time. Gets me every time.

Loved the song when I was a kid.

The siege of firebase Gloria is my favorite Vietnam movie but full metal jacket is a close second. Even though I like John Wayne the propaganda kills me.

My dad was an MP stationed @ Fort Benning where they filmed Green Berets. He was part of the security detail and had a chance to be an extra in the film. He let his buddy do it (jeep driver in one scene). I have a Zippo they handed out that has "Green Berets" engraved on one side and "Stolen from John Wayne" on the other. My dad never smoked so it has never even had fluid in it. Looks brand new.

The Siege of Firebase Gloria is a VERY GOOD film. Though, it is hard to find anyone that saw it. Wings Hauser and R. Lee Emry placed you on that doomed base with them.

As a side bar: Wing's son, Cole, portrays Rip on Yellowstone.

I am a lifelong Duke fan. I especially like The Green Beret but, even when it was released, I mused at how clean their uniforms always were.

My wife's brother was Green Beret in Veit Nam. He was there when they were trying to win the hearts and minds. A couple of years prior to the Tet Offensive. Noting that it IS a movie, he has mixed feelings about it. But, when it was released, 1968, the US was not in a place to see the grit of that...war.

100% on that one.

Another one that gets me is Queen's Somebody to love

The other movie is Brian's Song The story, the acting, the whole bit.

Don't watch it unless you want a lump in your throat, and something in your eye. James Caan has now passed as well.
