What is this?

I found two of these while going through my Dad's garage. I have no idea of what this is. It's been painted black and made of metal. The handle, or whatever the piece on the back of it is, pivots at the hinge on the back. I Googled the "BOSS Pa Feb 25" but came up empty.

Re: What is this?

What line of work was your Father in? They look like an intended purpose for maybe hanging on a cable or such.

Re: What is this?

I am trying to figure out how the object you show in the first picture is related to the different object in the other pictures. Were they found together, or does one fit into the other? They don't look like the same shape.

Re: What is this?

It must be related to a machinist's tool. I worked around some that used products from penn tool and machine. They used BOSS as a logo on a lot of their products. Good luck figuring it out.

Re: What is this?

That's my first question to come to mind, would Boss be a brand or a purpose/designation

Re: What is this?

The different pics are all of the same object. My Dad was a mechanic engineer so I don’t think it’s related to his work. His Dad was a Cadillac mechanic so not his either. I have two of them and they are identical. Someone painted them black, although they were probably originally black or unpainted. They are fairly thin gauge metal. ??

Re: What is this?

It looks like a container meant to hang. I think Tutone is on to something. Maybe an accessory to a machining tool, like oil heat-sink

looks maybe like an oil tin for a lathe to hang on the front guard, with one of those little aluminum brushes in it
