I wish I was only paying a little more for non-ethanol gas. Its a buck fifty more per gallon here. But I still buy it, the truck sits for too long between drives to not use it. But I didn’t switch to a big block for the mpg anyway.

Okay done with the hijacking. I do care about MPG. I record the mileage and fuel purchased at every fill up. This allows me to notice if something is changing with the engine or possibly the drivetrain over time.
If I drop from 12 to 10 MPG over a month something has changed on the truck and it is time to take a look at things.
The last time it happened was in July when it was caused by my rear axle getting bent in a fender bender I was in. There were other clues that helped me pin point where the problem was but the first clue was the fuel usage.
Thanks HO455 - I finally posted a greeting in the Welcome Area.

Re: Are you really concerned with gas milage on your truck??

I may be when I put an overdrive between the tranny and the 4:56 rear, in my C30, but until then, naaaaaa. ( and then it’ll just be curiosity) I‘m just more concerned about lowering the rpm’s than I am increasing the gas mileage.

Would be my main concern also for my 68 . 4:56 250 4spd there's only so much you can improve driving a brick .

Only concerned with MPG as a function of range. With every improvement in reliability, I'm looking to drive farther without having to stop for gas every 3 hours.

Either that or just get a bigger tank under the bed.

Exactly how I feel. And I assume a 2021 Duramax 3500 would be more than $600 per month....?

Probably closer to double that.

Easily, double that. My 2015 Ram 3500 is over a $1000 for 4 years, not to mention almost $400 a year to keep plates on it.

Exactly! I get 7 MPG towing the travel trailer. Each saddle tank gets me about 100 miles, with a little reserve. Of course, that's almost two hours of driving with each tank, so that's a good time to stop and stretch and let the dog out for a break, too.

Re: Are you really concerned with gas milage on your truck??

I do care about gas mileage but I'm a tight wad. I try to get the most out of everything. I have a 292 and OD trans with 3.73 gears and I get about 18. My goal is 20 but it doesn't look like I can get there from here.

Non ethonal high test is maybe 10 cents higher than high test with ethonal. No regular 87 octane without ethonal. But I wouldn't use regular anyways

I have owned my presenttruck since 2014 coming up to 7 years and average about 1000 miles a year. I dont worry about gas mileage but the rip off gas prices bother me.

Some is due to fuel distribution delays. As in, a driver shortfall. A BIG issue in the UK where they have issued a National Emergency to deploy military drivers.

Its not developed into a fuel shortage point here now but, is creating part of our current problems. Hell, a driver shortage was a problem here before the pandemic.

Re: Are you really concerned with gas milage on your truck??

At 7 MPG I worry alot. That said a 30 minute drive puts a 12 hour grin on my face. By my calculations that is way cheaper than therapy. Now if the cost of high test would go back down I could have 45 minute sessions instead! Seriously I don't care about fuel cost and enjoy my truck and the only thing is I enjoyed it more a year ago. My income hasn't changed as costs rise. I would rather wear out the motor than let it rust from fuel costs. I filled up the other day and quit looking after $75 and just filled the tank with high test. Most of my vehicles hold 30+ gallons.

Re: Are you really concerned with gas milage on your truck??

I did check the 67 once and it got 20 mpg on the highway with a 3.07:1. Now when it gets close to empty I just put more in. The 72 corvette gets 2hrs to 20gal if I’m easy on it. Good thing is I only go through 2 tanks of gas a year.

Saw a post with someone doing electric and putting the battery pack under the hood. Estimated 60 mile range. You would have to fill the bed with batteries to get a decent range. Even the new Ford Lightning has limited mileage when it has an actual load. Something that is not marketed.

Re: Are you really concerned with gas milage on your truck??

If I were to electrify a C 10 it wouldn't be to haul loads...LOL. At that point it would be a rest-o-mod on steroids.

It would be a custom frame with a Tesla style lithium battery positioned between the frame rails with (4) independent drive motors. Air ride suspension, etc.

A $ 250,000 truck build worth around $ 150,000 It's the American way
