Question Blazer Gas Filler Grommet

I am just about to paint my 72 Blazer and would like to remove the filler neck grommet. I can cut the old one out but can I install the new one without removing the filler neck.

I just changed the one out on the saddle tank on my 72 C20 and I believe it is almost identical to the Blazer setup. I would pull the filler neck. It is a very tight fit and I don't think you could get the new grommet in with the spout in there.

Make sure to use soapy water to get it to slide on easy.
