Painted tailgate letters

Can someone post a pic of original white painted letters on a tailgate? I'm looking to see if the paint stayed in the recessed area or if it came out to the outer edge. Fleetside gate please.

Think there are few threads about the lettering on the site this is one of the first that came up with a search https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=762735

Re: Painted tailgate letters

Ok, on this topic. Were all the tailgates painted with white letters? Or was that an option? I'm 97% sure (ok 197% sure) that my 1970 was repainted before, at least on the inside. But my tailgate letters are not white. Should they be?

Re: Painted tailgate letters

Depends . My original gate was gold with white that had been repainted but the letters should have been the gold . This is when I picked up the take off gate

I had the same question last spring and here is the link and don't think we got a definitive answer other than maybe a plant to plant anomaly.

I had a better tailgate I bought that I wanted to paint when I painted my truck. The one I got on the truck was bowed and lead a rough life.

I was wondering the same thing so before I scratched off all the original paint, I took a close-up picture of the letter area.

You can clearly see not a lot of care was taken when the masked off the white as the lines aren't straight and there is color overspray on the white.

And to directly answer your question, in my example they attempted to keep it in the recessed area. I would guess there may have been variation between plants.

Re: Painted tailgate letters

The paint was intended to stay on the flat. I believe this type of accent painting was done with stencils, going by the misted edges you often will see

White or otherwise should be the same, I think. This isn't factory but boy did the painter do a nice job. I can take a close up if needed.

Re: Painted tailgate letters

I'm calling most "plant anomalies" a drug issue. I'll allow that some people are just bored, and don't care, to be another answer. My first day on the assembly line (I'm a day person, and I got picked up for second shift) I mentioned that I was tired, and was offered speed (not by management). I declined. Assembly line work is pretty boring, needless to say, and drugs are a common problem.

Such as the rivets they missed on my C10, one at a leaf spring hanger and two at the transmission cross. They also drilled the wrong for a Deluxe badge.
