Strange ! This is shocking !

last week the 50' cheap harbor freight air hose I drag around the garage separated mid line internally resulting in low pressure so in the thrash it went . I replaced it with a brand new Goodyear rubber hose without another thought Until I hooked it up to my 80 gal Black max compressor to blow some dust off the truck and ZAP ! I got shocked ! . I also have a Ingersol rand 60 gallon compressor I switched the air hose over to it with the same results Zap ! as soon as I touched the truck ZAP ! Both compressors are in great shape no funky wiring issues ,both sit on a anti vibration runner 1/2" thick rubber pad on the floor . Two totally independent compressors same result ? Well after checking everything again , No issues found . I shut everything down and drained the tanks , some moisture but not anything crazy . There is no battery in the truck so rule that out as a source . Well , it turns out the new hose I had sat in the sun in the driveway to help relive the coil in the hose was hot and with the moisture in the hose on a cool garage floor picked up enough static to send it through the hose to me when I became the ground . Craziest thing I've ever seen . I've checked everything again and no more ZAP!

That static electricity can be interesting.
I’ve seen 6 inch long sparks jump from my gloved finger to a metal pin on more than one occasion. We wore rubber overall boots that helped create static as we walked. If you reached for a metal pin you’d get zapped. Normal thing to do would be contact the pin base first with your boot toe. Buy sometimes you’d forget and get the blue zapper. That’s an eye opener.
We had a guy try to put out a small fire on some insulation once. Used a dry-chemical extinguisher. Cement floor. Wearing fire retardant coveralls too. The zap knocked him on his butt.
Static can be puzzling and fascinating at the same time.

Yeah, that's interesting. I have a couple of 30 year old Goodyear hoses and that has never happened to me even though I live in the much lower humidity high desert. It must be the material used in the new hoses. I have had carppy musical instrument cables that are staticky when dragged across the floor.

I get a constant static tingle on my arm when using the sandblast cabinet.

My Softtopper running through the wind can generate static. It's never been enough to shock me, but I can feel it making my hair stand up. It's never happened with my Z28 convertible, so I think it's the specific top material that makes it happen.

Remember static strips on cars? I've never had it happen to me but I believe you anyway . I know there is such a thing as static-free air hose.

This reminds me of a buddy who had a 67 step side F100 that had a whole diamond tucked velour interior. When you stepped out of the truck and touched the door handle you would get shocked. And it wasn't the rub your shirt and touch your sister shock. No it was a muscle clenching, bone aching, big blue arcing spark that would shock the first person who touched the truck after getting out. My buddy loved to jump out of the truck and wait for the passenger to touch their door and get shocked before he touched his door.
Sometimes we would both get out and wait hoping the other one forgot and got the shock.
Or if we had a 3rd person in the truck we'd make sure they got the shock.

Interesting fact that some of you may not be aware of - some rubber hoses/vacuum line contains carbon, which can carry an electrical charge - and even function as a spark plug wire in an emergency.

You can possibly mitigate your issue by tightly coiling several feet of bare copper wire around the tank end of your air hose, and supplying it a ground path.

Never had that happen, however I have a decent sized blasting cabinet that will light you up once in a while from static. It only happens with short sleeves when your arms touch the metal cabinet case. It’s grounded in two places to the metal wall studs.
