Steering Column Compatability Question?

Hey Folks! Does anyone happen to know if the 68 GM A-Body and 72 Chevy pickup steering columns would be interchangeable? Or at least the part that either does or does not have the automatic shifter bits?

I've got a '68 Beaumont with a column shift automatic that I'm converting to floor shift, and a '72 K20 with a manual column that has a floor shift automatic that I'd like to convert to column shift. It'd be sweet if I could swap parts I already have!

Cheers,
D

They do not interchange without a LOT of work.

Take both of them apart and see how close the parts are. GM likes to reuse as much as they can.

I found this place from a thread on another forum: www.columnsgalore.com I've sent them an email, will report back with any findings.

Re: Steering Column Compatability Question?

I am currently installing a tilt floor shift column from a '72 Camaro into a '66 Ford F-100 that has a M-II type front suspension w/ R&P steering.. Some fabrication and a couple Borgeson shaft adaptors help made it happen.. Given the proper skills and knowledge, I guess one could install a 1949 Hudson Hornet column into a 2021 Lamborgini..
