Re: MPG poll
I voted 18-20MPG. I just broke the motor in 9.5:1 flat top pistons, Clifford 264 cam lightly ported head and had 17 MPG.
I'm still tuning the carb it's running a little rich and yet tweek the timing. It should get me to at least 19MPG with the additon of synthetic gear oils in the diff and trans.......

Re: MPG poll
13.5 when I checked it about 4 months ago. But when I get that bumper back on, things will be different!
I pulled the rear bumper to get it painted (a month and a half ago!) and as soon as I finish the frame, the engine will go back in! Hell of a lot of work just to get a bumper painted! 72 K10 350, sm465/np205, tires-31 , 3.07 gears. Currently adding Edelbrock 1406 & Performer intake and removing smog equipment.... hope it helps!

Re: MPG poll
The 572 running on 87 got 7.5-8.5mpg going across the USA. Like most big blocks it didn't care that it was loaded with 1,500lbs of stuff, going uphill or down, 100mph or 60mph...
Ah the joy of consistency.

Re: MPG poll
The truck's last fill-up netted me 7.5. Blech. I need to tweak that QuadraJet some more.
The Econo-Boat can get 24+ in strictly flat highway cruising with no wind, but the usual mileage to and from work is 19-21.

Re: MPG poll
I have a 1967 C10 with a 350 four barrel carb and a 700r4 tranny. I have 3.77 and 15 inch rallys on it. If I keep my foot out of it I get about 15 around town and as much as 18 on the hwy. I think the tranny helps a lot.
It did cost me $50 bucks to fill up the other day WOW!!!! Times have changed!!

$50 doesn't sound all that bad, though... if I had to fill my three tanks at once (which I have done before), at today's prices here it would be over $200.

Re: MPG poll
Been getting 15-17 in my 65 with 305, 700R4 and 3:83 gears.
I have wondered for a while now (since I am starting to collect parts to build my sons 71), if one wanted to REALLY build a hi-MPG truck, how high could you expect? For example, a short step (I presume this would be lightest), replace frame with tube frame (privided one exists), get rid of all excess weight (aluminum wheels, fiberglass fenders & hood, no bumpers, etc) , put in 3.07 gear, 700R4 and LS1 (keep foot out of it)...could you get 20+ in our trucks? |

Re: MPG poll
Ive never checked my mileage on my truck or my Scion. I always figured why bother, Im driving both no matter what. Oh, plus the Scion is a company car and they pay for all the gas.
And I did notice this is a very old thread =)

Re: MPG poll
Looking at this makes me feel expensive. I get about 9 miles to the gallon without the top and the original 350/350 combo.

Here's a graph I did of fuel economy. The (ADJ. 1.08x line) refelects a calculated 85 inaccuracy in my speedometer and odo readings:

Re: MPG poll
I'd like to see a test done on mph with real gas
and then the e10 at the pump.. to see just how much you loose with the e10 over 100% gas.. as I think the ethenol is nothing but a bunch of green B/S |

Re: MPG poll
I'm running a fresh 307, Edelbrock 650 carb, 700r4 and 4:56 in the rear. If I keep it at 65 and the wind isn't hard in my face, the best I've seen is 15.3 mpg.

Re: MPG poll
Agreed, I read it takes 1.2 gallons of petroleum to get 1 gallon of E85 to the pump.

Re: MPG poll
I get around 11 mpg based off the speedo, but the speedo is off so its probably getting worse than that. 355sbc, 292 competition cam, around 10.5:1 compression, holley 600 double pumper, and 3.08 gears (for gas mileage, its my daily diver) I swear I can see the gas guage move everytime I hit the gas, but it does get great smiles per gallon.
