Share your little know fact ..Here is mine

These Black lines are there to identify where to cut open the side of a school bus (if needed ) to rescue children with the least amount of harm while doing so.

Learned that one years ago as a young buck on a quail hunting trip.
One of the old timers showed me after watching me shake the hell out of the pepper shaker before I finally just took the top off.

The reason that the Ketchup (or Catsup however you pronounce it).

But the reason that companies like Heinz held off on using the more efficient squeeze bottle over the old PITA glass bottles for years.

It was the sound that the squeeze bottle makes. It sounds like a wet fart and they didn't want their product to sound like that.

I guess it makes sense. It isn't an appealing sound. Especially when it isn't Ketchup.

The front panel of a Shoebox greeting card is rectangular, but the back panel has a slight taper to it. This makes it easier to catch the edge of the front panel and open the card.

Well.....yes and no...................
I worked at a school bus dealer for 14 years, now work ON school buses for local school. I maintain 28 school buses and about same number of pickups, suburbans, and vans (9 years and counting...) Just a couple of Fords, Thank You, Lord!!!

None of the training I received (and you get a bunch of training when you work on vehicles that transport a commodity that is MORE valuable than ANY thing else, period!!!

Those pieces are called "rails". They stiffen the sides of a bus body in case of an accident. Not all states require the rail at the "very" bottom. Many states in the north require that lowest most rail, in case a bus slides into a snow bank or something similar with snow, helps prevent body damage.
*************************************************************

The areas you have marked are correct on where a child would sit in a bus!!!
ALL folks need to know that!!!

*************************************************************

Not all states have their rails painted black. Some require them yellow. All states must have their buses abide minimum safety rules the Fed's require. All states add their own safety guide lines that MUST be met IF the state governing agency says so...

Some states require a certain type of material to be used to upholster passenger seats.
Most states require roof emergency hatches, some one, most two.

If you live in California, the school bus wheels there, are painted yellow, I don't know of any other state that requires this.

Iowa requires storm glass on both sides of the drivers vision, even the first set of passenger windows at the front of the bus, for vision in the winter when windows are frozen over.

Many states (Oklahoma has since 2007) requires extra tall passenger seats, that help cushion children's bodies, in the event of an accident.

If you want to know about seat belts in buses.......Full size school buses are make from the ground up, with safety in mind....FIRST!!!
The statistics will am amaze you.

Full size, medium School Buses (NOT one ton buses) generally have between one and twenty fatalities per year, FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!!

There have been years when this number has been less than 10.

You have and will see terrible accidents involving school buses with fatalities, beware!!! Also pay attention to the type of bus you see in a bad accident. Pay attention to see IF it's a yellow and block school bus!!! NOT all buses are built with the same safety requirements of a school bus!!!

Oh, the stat for fatalities of lost childrens lives in car accidents, on the way to school...is over 1000

Maybe something all the car and truck guys know but I cant believe how many people I have told this to have never heard it.

In the middle of the road there are sometimes blue reflectors. They denote there is a fire hydrant across from them on the side.

Yup. Used to be when the FD would only have to go to close fires, they had to go and look for hydrants in their area. In a big enough area, nobody has time for that, so the blue reflectors got put in.

How many people know that the white reflectors on the freeway reflect red if you are going the wrong way? Never driven on the wrong side, but if you are driving at the right time of day, you can see all the red reflectors on the other side of the freeway.

My question would be how many people driving the wrong way would actually be sober enough to know this.

The moon is moving away from the Earth at a tiny, although measurable, rate every year. 85 million years ago it was orbiting the Earth about 35 feet from the planet's surface.

Doesn't scare me at all.. does it scare you ?

Our county will be providing an 84-foot White Fir to be this year's official U.S. Christmas Tree. It will be placed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
Wasn't sure if I should put this here... but I bet to most people, this is a little known fact!

Right turn on red doesn't mean you can turn left

Right turn on red doesn't mean you don't have to stop

Solid painted line on the road, yellow or white, means stay in lane/do not cross

You are supposed to use your turn signal when making a turn or changing lanes

At the grocery store you're not supposed to leave your cart at your car when you leave

I don't know how I know all these things when it appears they are not well known.

Here's one I wonder if people know these days. On a narrow road less than two full lanes the vehicle driving uphill has the right of way

I will admit that I have never heard this one ^^^

A few to add.

When you are on the entrance ramp to a highway, the vehicles that are on the highway have the right-of-way, you have to adjust your speed to them.

A "yellow light" of a traffic signal does not actually mean speed up

I knew that.... maybe because I am old, maybe because I grew up in timber country. You do not want to stop a truck going uphill, especially a loaded truck, and make it try to get moving again. Especially if it had to get in the ditch to avoid downhill traffic.

If you get a cat really dizzy and drop him straight down he will often land on his back. Not a high drop, just a foot. I performed this experiment many times as a young kid.

Cows kill more people every year than sharks.

I live on one of those roads. Whoever is closest to a pull off spot gets out of the way regardless of the hill. Trailers and logging trucks get right away pretty much regardless. I have a neighbor who is a Sawyer so a logging truck is common enough.

Sounds like common courtesy, which requires no written rule. But also having pull-offs makes the exception. a smart person will yield to any approaching loaded truck where enough room for both vehicles is in question... ya think??
