6 hour road trip

I made a 6 hr road trip early Saturday morning to pick up parts for my C20. Nice trip and got to talk trucks for a little while. Best part is the young man advertising the parts said if I was willing to drive that far for them I could have the parts for free. You really do meet the nicest folks in this hobby.

As for what I got, complete brake setup off a 14bolt all new shoes, hardware and wheel cylinders on the backing plates and already turned drums. Ready to be bolted in place.

From what I've read on this forum these can be bolted directly on an Eaton axle for upgraded braking.

Right, and since I've already swapped the front crossmember from an 81 C20 for the disc brakes I should have a decent brake system when I am done.

Re: 6 hour road trip

So you and your wife daily drive 67 Chevy pickups with stick shifts in the St. Louis metro area?

Yes. Working third shift & not having to deal with rush hour traffic does have it's advantages though.

I don't live in a metro area but I'm close enough to Baltimore and Washington, DC that people around here (and farther) work down there, and I go when I need to. Me, my ex-wife-now, two sons and daughter all drove manuals (when we were together). All three kids started off driving manuals and the first six vehicles my ex-wife drove when we were together were stick shift. My youngest is on his 3rd vehicle, all manuals, my daughter too. I ordered my '92 K3500 SRW with a 5spd. I worked all over, went down into that metro BS drinking coffee/cell phone/shifting gears all the time. What's the big deal? It's only driving.

Re: 6 hour road trip

I drove manuals every day in stop and go traffic without an issue myself. Granny gear was helpful since I sat in traffic for atleast an hour every day. Recently we got an auto truck and all I can say is that I am not impressed. It's nice not hitting 4th gear by 35mph but it's slow all around compared to its big brother. Both 3rd gen diesel dodges in this case. I think the vehicles setup is the key with having a manual and hating traffic. 3.42 gears are the highest and that is pushing it in my opinion.

Re: 6 hour road trip

In this day and age, I think its cool is all. My DD is a manual and so is my work truck. It just seemed an interesting setup is all.

This is pretty much how I feel about it as well. Truth be told we wouldn't have the 72 GMC with an automatic if her father hadn't given her that truck. Neither her or I would have bought a classic truck with an automatic.

That's neat, I saw the exit for Beebe on my way to Galveston earlier this year & remembered seeing that city name on this forum.

Re: 6 hour road trip

My wife always drove a manual. Then she bought a Cherokee with and automatic and within a year she was gone. I knew we should have found one with manual . Or was it, "If I knew that was all it took I would have bought one a long time ago"

It truly is a small world. If you were rolling down Hwy 167 and saw the Beebe exit you were within about 3 miles of my place.

As to manuals, my 67 is the only one I have now but there was a time when my wife and I were early married we had a CJ7, Saturn coupe, and a Chevy truck and all were manuals. She and I have recently looked at a few convertible coupes and one was an auto and I told her that took some of the luster off it for me.
