Re: Tinkering on the 72 jimmy, may have hurt the engine...Thoughts?

The 2020 S show is still going on so it has been slow getting stuff done, but the new engine fired up tonight briefly. Hopefully i will get a new update this weekend... fingers crossed.

Re: Tinkering on the 72 jimmy, may have hurt the engine...Thoughts?

I have it home again!
Been a long road so far, but things are heading in the right direction.
New engine is installed, cam broke in and getting some miles on before the next oil change. Seems to run good with lots of oil pressure.
Now i remember all of the little things i need to do on this thing. Steering wanders, a squeak in the drive line, steering column turn switch is broke, gas gauge quit, need lots of interior work... etc
Just glad to have it back and will tinker on it this winter.
Thanks for the support!

Glad it’s back together and in time to enjoy it a bit ahead of winter. Looks like the GMC red on the engine too - nice work.

Well, here we are. Kept trying to get more done before winter comes. (it came, was here for over 2 weeks and now it is fall again).
The front end has now been gone through, replaced ball joints, tie rods, sleeves etc. Steers much better now. The mechanic said it looked like original components in it yet. Also had new tail pipes put on, sounds much better now. Just about ready for the first oil change and then hope to work on the interior over the winter.

Re: Tinkering on the 72 jimmy, may have hurt the engine...Thoughts?

Drove the jimmy to look at a 2wd pro street blazer today and went to leave and nothing... No click or anything. Found under the hood the Positive cable got on the exhaust manifold and melted pretty good. Also melted some of the fusible link wire. Did a quick patch job and got it started and made it home. Only a small step back i guess...

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Re: Tinkering on the 72 jimmy, may have hurt the engine...Thoughts?

Winter is here so i am getting to play on this a little bit now. Wiring is patched up from the "melt" job, tearing the interior apart now. More work than a guy thinks.
I will just keep this up as my progress thread instead of a build thread.
Enjoy...

Yes it is a heavy rubber mat. I couldn't find one anywhere and noticed joshua (JQ-72) had one for sale on the board so i bought it. The fit is ok. I have done some trimming already and run the heat gun around it. I am going to leave it for a few days and see if it takes better shape.

Still tinkering slowly. Can't get the wipers to work and no dash lights. Swapped in a nice tach dash with an 80# oil gauge, now the new engine doesn't bury the needle. Swapped the steering wheel and seems as though the bearings are loose in the column... 1 step back wards... Changed out the crappy black dash pad for a nice (probably 1 year 69 only) Blue pad i had here.

Lets just say something went bad and you owe us a beer pete...
