Tie down location

Hi All,
i have a 1969 K10 Suburban with Barn Doors..

i want use it to transport my bike (1958 BMW R26) to a location 150 miles away..

(The height fits). Also i am to order a camping box so that
i can have a mobile kitchen( will share pics once i will have it)

normally this is hold in place using tie down straps using factory hooks for othet vehicles..

Also i would need to secure my bike while at transport..

What solutions did you use to attach tiedown straps or did you install some hooks somewhere I’m not sure whether the 60 year old plywood will hold and didn’t want to just drill to metal frame or wooden floor.:

Anybody done anything before that I can just copy?

Thank you

Sinan

Re: Tie down location

The wood isn't likely to hold the tie downs alone but there are metal stiffeners (A quick look underneath will show what I'm talking about) under the wood and if you drilled through those and bolt tie down hooks or loops to those with a nice thick fender washer on top, I believe you would be okay.

Re: Tie down location

one time trip or are you planning to do this again? the answer to that question would affect my advice..

for a one time trip, I wouldn't modify anything, I would fabricate something to block the bike down to and slide it in there.. maybe collapsible or adjustable cargo brace or two and be done..

if this is something you're planning to do often in the future, I would recommend a high quality track system, mounted through the floor into the steel cross members for strength and adjustability.. for fully adjustable and versatile cargo restraint, tracks may fit on the sides as well.. use rivnuts (riveted style well nuts)

good luck!

temporary

Cargo Bar Adjustable 40"-70", Small Rapid Ratchet Strong Steel Load Lock Rod for Pickups, Vans, & SUVs

permanent

Pit Posse 4' Aluminum S Track Tie Down Rails Set Of 2 – Heavy Aircraft Quality Aluminum - Adjustable - For Flatbed, Truck, Cargo, Van, Enclosed Trailer - Automotive Accessories– 5 Year Warranty Silver

for mounting in sheet metal blind areas like inner side panels under the windows

Re: Tie down location

Thanks for the advice, i will try to find something similar like in the picture, though it is difficult in Turkey .. ( fabricating might be easier)

After HO454 ‘s response i thought i will just get some hooks, use the existing cage nuts for the third row seat and bolt two hooks down to use a temporary strap location.. they are not as wide as they ideally should be but maybe they will be okay..

This would solve my bike transport issue...

But i am also thinking about putting a big camper box, like a massive aluminium driver, to use as a mobile kitchen, fridge and storage.. for this i would need a more permanent bolt down location..
do you think i can just idrill some rivet nuts to the metal side floor panels that hold the plywood down. Or to the sides? ( metal sheet behind the interior side panels?
