New Igntion switch

Have a new American auto wire ignition switch that I installed a new tumbler that has a key for doors, glove box and ignition. Key will turn to on and start but will not go back to accessory. Can turn tumbler also without key. Did I install incorrectly? Without getting it back to accessory I cannot get tumbler out. Is it a throwaway?

Re: New Igntion switch

The replacement switches are junk. I had one that you could turn on with anything. Any key, screwdriver, or coin. You could also pull the key out in any position.
I took it back & they started bringing out more of them & trying them. They were all like that. You probably need to find a nos Delco.

They told me that likely the tumbler I used (bought it as a set to do doors and ignition) was machined weird. Said that if I used their tumbler even if it was installed 180 degrees out it would turn into place. The fact that I cannot get this unit to go back into accessory it is junk.

Re: New Igntion switch

The switches AAW uses are pretty good. Now the new tumbler sets have been iffy that I have used. Sending an original set to locdoc or to any good locksmith to be matched will be much better.
