Deal of a lifetime! (ZL1/L88 Heads inside!)

Picked up a bigblock for $470 delivered. Been looking for one to throw in the shortbed. But the kicker is, it included these 1969 ZL1 / L88 heads!!!!! Basically paid $150 for the heads!

Going to build an L88 clone with the 454. Probably going to keep the heads and run them rather than resell them for the 4-5k they're worth. I just want to be that guy, when they're showing a history of the car type of tv show talking about the heads. I can say "Yeah, i've got those on my farmtruck."

Think I got a good deal?!

I've got another pair, but one is only good. The other one dropped a valve and destroyed the chamber in the head.

Great find! A lot of Corvette guys will give you $$$$$$ for them so that they can make a clone. I would sell them and pocket the proceeds and use the rest for a nice set of AFR heads... Just saying... My other hobby...

That is a good package deal. Do some reasearch on those heads before putting much money in them. They aren't all they're cracked up to be, especially to today's standards. The aluminum is weaker, they are hard on valve seats and as stated, real prone to cracking. Don't get me wrong, they are cool, but I wouldn't drop a lot of coin on them since it isn't a numbers matching resto.

Id sell em and spend half the money buying a set of fully assembled brand new dart heads that outflow the hell out of those L88s. I'm just more about performance then history. I mean if I had a vette or whatever and needed them that would be different but not for a truck.

I agree, sell them to a Corvette nut and get some really nice modern aluminum heads. Rather than sinking money into those heads to get them fresh again, you can get a set of brand new heads that have more power potential at no cost to you, and you may even make a profit.

Very nice - that's a good cylinder head to have.

Regarding the damaged chamber - you can have those fixed. My first set of aluminum heads had a chamber blown away. We heliarc'd more material in, put new valve inserts and guides in, and ground the chamber back down to match the others. I ran those heads forever, until I got the RHS heads I have on the engine now.

Well - not much for me (about the same as a valve job), because I did most of the work myself - and it was about 20 years ago.

But - I would think any competent hi-performance shop could fix you up.
