Odd 1993 GMC Suburban on Copart
I don't see a subforum for Suburbans but figured I'd post it here.
There's a low mile 1993 GMC Suburban on Copart right now that had been a fire commander's truck apparently. It is an SLE, K2500 with a 454. Now the odd part: It has an SS cluster. Being that it has all of its lights still attached makes me think it was still in service until the wreck. The seats have been recovered which I assume was done when it was new for the HD use the seats would be getting or possibly done later while it was in service due to wear. My question is: how did it get an SS cluster? Some are saying it's a police "Interceptor" yet from all the info I have, GM did not offer a SEO truck until 1997 and this truck DOES NOT have any SEO RPOs. It's just an plain white SLE that's loaded. https://www.copart.com/lot/40821793/...a-philadelphia

Re: Odd 1993 GMC Suburban on Copart
What is different about the cluster to make it an SS cluster? There was a municipal package of some sort, from what I have seen. And this one doesn't seem to have it. The most obvious telltale is no luggage rack. I bought a '95 sheriff's dept. Suburban K2500 Cheyenne w/350. It has the side trim with chrome also on the bumpers. It also came with towing mirrors but no hitch and the brakes are hydroboost. I don't know what was individually ordered and what is in the package. It could only be no roof rack. But I thought it was odd to come with towing mirrors yet no hitch.
It looks like that Suburban has high back buckets which were cloth. I know the low back vinyl bucket seats in the pre-95 interiors had crap for upholstery. It was the same cheap vinyl as the base bench seats. It looks fantastic when new with a well defined texture. But that is it's downfall. That made the lows very thin and weak. The material would start splitting in the low areas in less than 20,000 miles. I had my truck back for new driver seat bottom three times under the 60,000 mile warranty. Finally I found the correct color cloth high backs and installed. My thinking for the vinyl was better for a work truck. But I was way wrong. The vinyl quality is so poor these days that cloth is the most durable fabric. I have never had such comfortable seats in a truck before, as those cloth high backs. And very very durable. So, I have no idea why this fire company reupholstered those seats. Mine looked great when I retired my '92 with 335k on it. I like those seats so much I found a blue pair and installed in my '95 Suburban

Ok thanks. I don't have a pre-95 to look at. What is the standard top speed?

I believe the 6K tach is also different.

Re: Odd 1993 GMC Suburban on Copart
The tach wasn't as noticeable to me. Standard goes to 5k on that.

Re: Odd 1993 GMC Suburban on Copart
My '92 was a diesel, so different tach anyway. I thought the speedometer went higher than 85, though. I know in '92 the tach was an option, so I assume the years prior as well. Not sure about '93 and '94, but I did notice not long after '92 they started putting tachs in everything
