Re: dies randomly at idle in gear

It's been a couple weeks now and I haven't driven the truck much but I am happy to report it is running night and day different.
The manual idle speed adjustment solved the stalling issue and the new distributor took care of the rough running. It starts instantly and take off is cleaner and crisper if that makes sense. Before it was a bit froggy on take off.
I've got a couple more things I want to test and replace if only for their age and it should be like new again.
I believe those shocks are originals too!

Thumbs up Re: dies randomly at idle in gear

I got around to testing that TPS and it was off. This model is not slotted for you to adjust it so I dremmel'd the two holes a bit and dialed it in. All good now.
The voltage gauge has dropped several times since I've had it but came back up and the battery is new so it's been ready to go but today the gauge dropped to near 10 or so while driving and did not come back up. When I got home the battery tested 11.98 v but it wouldn't even turn over. I cleaned the cables, jumped it and let it run for a while. Wasn't charging so I wiggled the alternator wires around and found the small gauge single wire plug on the back of the alt wasn't making good contact. If that happens again I'll adjust that plug.

Re: dies randomly at idle in gear

I had a large zip tie holding that plug on mine for the longest time, until I finally replaced the plug.

Re: dies randomly at idle in gear

The plug on mine isn't broken. It had no reason to lose contact. But it did. I'll most likely see that again.

Re: dies randomly at idle in gear

I bought a new distributor from Napa for this truck. All the Napa brand specifics in the description and all. The box is all colored label Napa. Inside I find included is this Carquest info. Just seemed funny.
