Re: Christmas Lights & Decorations '21

You mean blurry pictures? They require special understanding is all. I'll try harder tonight.

I started putting up Christmas lights Thanksgiving weekend years ago. I would have extra time plus getting ahead of foul weather on its way. Some early years I'd find myself feeling like no sooner I put them up it was time to take them down, so I started a ritual. Two weeks earlier this year it was so warm out I was hoping to put them up then. I used the good weather up for more important things.

Re: Christmas Lights & Decorations '21

I think we are the only house in our extended neighborhood that doesnt put up any outside decorations. Putting them up not much of a hassle. Taking them down, hassle.

We have a nice wreath for the door though. Grand kids are coming over tomorrow to help us put all the inside stuff.

Still Christmas related a couple of suggestions for kid stuff. If you have a craft type store. Go get some of the white cocoa style mugs and the special pens to draw on them. Its really fun for the kids to decorate Christmas style. Take a lot of pics, make sure they date them somewhere. Very cool for them to have as they get older.

Something my honey and I did last year and taking the grand kids this year. Find a glass blowing place, we have friend that has a very small shop, and have them blow you an ornament. We take the grand kids ornament shopping every year, but this year we are all going to the glass blowers. Should be great fun.

I won't be having any children here this year. Since I was a kid we've made gingerbread cookies with the cookie cutters, then paint with colored icing. There never seemed to be enough of that paint! I guess you don't get left with anything to carry into years beyond. Cool ideas, both of them. Blow your own Christmas ornament?

I don’t mean to be a grinch, however…..to those of you placing Christmas lights/decorations in your yards please avoid anything that has red and blue lights flashing together!
Every time I come around the corner, I think it’s the police and have a panic attack. I have to brake hard, toss my margarita out the window, fasten my seatbelt, throw my phone on the floor, turn down the radio, and push my gun under the seat. All while trying to drive. It’s too much drama even for Christmas. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Richard, I get the same impulses whenever I see red and blue lights while driving. Just blue will even give me a jolt. Here's what I don't get. Who told the Chinese purple was a Christmas light color?

Here is a blurry sample.

Re: Christmas Lights & Decorations '21

That's a lot of work for purple☺

Looks nice, but I get what you mean. I knew a gal who did up her entire tree with purple. It made a statement though, she did it up nice.

I still have 6-7 sets of the old indoor/outdoor we used back in the 70s+ with painted bulbs. Too me they're still the best looking lights, though I haven't broke them out since the tree maybe 20 years ago.

My mom made these two Christmas balls in the 60s. Picture of my her & my step-dad she put in an ornament, she took her Christmas very serious

That looks like your place Tim. ? It looks real nice.
I don't mind purple lights. All those colors together remind me of that glass candy dish full multicolored hard candies my grandmother always had out around Christmas. "Hard candy Christmas" as Dolly sang.

Re: Christmas Lights & Decorations '21

Tim, thanks for starting this post which led me to quite an enjoyable evening!
I was enjoying my cigar and a beer after sunset and admiring our Christmas lights and I remembered seeing your post, so I snapped a couple photos of the front of the house then the back porch (which is our main everyday entrance). I looked up and saw a bright star shining…moving! The star of Bethlehem?? Nope, Turns out it was the International Space Station! That is the bright blip in the middle of photo 3. It made me ponder the insignificance of all of us…which reminded me that it is Pearl Harbor Day! From the top of our hill at the ranch I can see Mount Diablo, where they light a beacon every Dec 7th in memory of those lost at Pearl Harbor/WWII. This beacon was originally lit in 1928 as an aviation aid, but extinguished after the Pearl Harbor attack during the “west coast blackout” for fear it could lead the enemy to an attack. Now it is lit once a year, today. I took the quad up the hill and toasted our fallen heroes. The photo of the beacon was even worse than the ISS so you’re welcome for not posting.
OK enough rambling, my eternal thanks to those who served and are currently serving, thankfully not in wartime at the present.

Hey Mike, I'm glad this thread inspired some good evening ponderance. Pearl Harbor was in my thoughts yesterday, too. Thanks for sharing the bit about the beacon. Oh, and house looks nice!

In my first post I should have just said "Bring on the blurry pictures" rather than point out blurriness. Maybe we could vote on the suckiest pictures. Bring 'em on!
