Re: '72 GMC Shortbed Stepside...last truck

Well, I’m off FB and back on the forum(where there is more sanity&#128514🤘🏼

Since I was on here last, I did:

Quicky paint job til I take it off the frame.
Tubular upper/lower control arms.
Tubular trans and trailing arm crossmembers.
Tubular trailing arms(heims in front), I built them.
Buckets/console out of a 2019 Toyota Sienna(leather).
67 Cowl hood.
3.5/5 drop.
Tilt column/Forever Sharp steering wheel.

Then I decided to bag it, so I’m halfway through that lol

I’ll post some random pics of that stuff as soon as I remember how😂

Re: '72 GMC Shortbed Stepside...last truck

Bagging it because I got tired of trying to calculate tire height and all that, I’ll just put it where I want it. Not trying to lay frame, but it’ll go low. Frame rests on the trailing arms, so I’m going to notch/box the frame(just a little notch to clear the arms). Slam Specialties SS7 bags all around, 2 Viair 480C pumps.

Step notch and such...

Re: '72 GMC Shortbed Stepside...last truck

Here are a couple pics of the headers. I know there are threads on here about the Hooker 2455s. They do bolt up, but it’s not as simple as that. They dump right into the trans crossmember, so you have to go tubular or chop up the originals. Also, they go directly where the antique shift linkages(on an automatic), so I did a Lokar cable conversion...

Very cool man... I saw a thread a good while back about making trailing arms and considered it for the same purpose as you. Do you remember what angle you used to correct for the new lowered ride with bags? Any info would be great. I'm gonna have to do something since my pinion angle is way off now.

Looking good brother

Thanks man. When I did the 5” drop I got the vibration from the bad pinion angle, so I put in a tubular crossmember with different mount holes for the drop. That almost had it right. Then I got some of the angled shims because I figured I’d go another inch lower, and it would put everything about right.

You could flip the brackets on your crossmember to get real close for free, and an afternoon.

When I made the arms, I did it the redneck way lol. Traced it on the welding table, then put the shim on it and drew a new line. Sorry I don’t remember the exact angle. I threw those notes out when I sold that house.

It’s not really too hard to make the arms. I’d definitely recommend the heim joints so you can go back and forth an inch. I got those and the bungs off Barnes 4WD. Really quality American made stuff. The ones I got are rated at 38K lbs or something like that lol

Yessir, I’m at AZ Ave/Queen Creek Rd

If you ever hit any of the Arizona C10 Club(Facebook) meets I’m always there. We’ll be at the next one in my kids square. If you see it, come holler at me🤘🏼

Kinda easy to spot, it’s a roundeye with the elusive square headlight option...
