Question Stock Quadrajet to TH350 Kickdown Linkage?

So the PO got a rebuilt 4 Barrel Quadrajet Carb from a O'Riley's, which its model # cross references to a '78 Truck and was originally made by Carter for GM. I got from US Carburetors a numbers matching "7042208" Rochester for my 72 C10 350 SBC / TH350 - which has been a bit of "fun". Crap happens, especially with old things you are working on.

The 1st one had mounting holes to move the kickdown bracket from my Carter Qjet but it had something seriously wrong with it, so a replacement was sent. The new replacement hasn't any "mounting holes" to move my TH350 Kickdown bracket over and my brother is extremely negative about making my bracket fit (like drilling holes in the new Rochester). I have sent photos to US Carburetors but I'll not get a answer until Monday, at the earliest.

So now I am questioning if my Carter 4 Barrel Quadrajet kickdown is even correct? I only know this is how it came to me ;-) Can anyone tell me? I'd love to see photos of an ~72 original 4B-QJet/TH350 Kickdown!!

I looked at two different PDF's Truck Manuals for this in information and could not find anything.

Thanks!

Here is a thread I posted abut my kickdown cable woes and how I solved them.

Re: Stock Quadrajet to TH350 Kickdown Linkage?

Thank you for that, great read. Far as I know, what I have now is working properly. But it's the throttle bracket on the new Carb 273965542777 that I am wondering about. Which I am wondering if it is setup for a manual transmission??

I'd like to see if anyone has a photo of what should be on a 72 C10 350/TH350 Rochester throttle bracket.

The carburetor in your second picture is for a manual transmission car/truck... No provision for attaching kick-down cable to it..

you really don't need a kick down on a turbo 350

Re: Stock Quadrajet to TH350 Kickdown Linkage?

Well, what 57larry means, is that the TH350 kickback connection/cable is only for downshifting when you hit the gas and go into WOT, say when you go to pass someone at cruising speed. One could, if they wanted, not have it and manually downshift.

It's not like a TV Cable for a 700r4, where that cable connection is a requirement to have connected for proper operation of your transmision. I also believe a TV Cable connection is a bit more complex too (must have correct geometry).

With that all said, I am not looking to have it removed - only to be able to push US Carb to understand the Carb they sent me is for a manual.

Far as I can tell, the 7042208 is for my 72 C10 TH350 and it is listed as automatic (A/T) on a data sheet I found. So I am pretty sure they sent me the wrong one or some other person has changed the linkage. See attached, the 2nd Carb is what the PO installed and is in my 1st photo.

Ah look what I found, not sure why I did not search on 7042208 in the 1st place.

Re: Stock Quadrajet to TH350 Kickdown Linkage?

Got a call from US Carbs, they messed up on the run of all the #7042208 and made them up all for manual transmissions! Opps! So they are going back on the line to have the correctly setup for auto transmissions. They'll even be putting a ship back label with my replacement, so there is no cost for the one that I have now that needs to be shipped back. While I expected that, that does not always actually happen.

Going to take a day or so before they'll have one sent out but let's hope 3rd time's the charm.

While its a big bummer that I have had trouble with getting a working/correctly setup carb from them, I have to chalk that up to "stuff happens" (and always seems to happen to me). The process of buying and their communication via ebay/email has been wonderful. Then once things went sideways it was generally through voice (email/ebay to send photos). Whether via email or voice the support rep was always pleasant, understanding, and apologetic. Also, I always had the same rep for my order/reported issues. That may not seem like much but boy it's nice not having to repeat details!

I still haven't a working carb and all those positives above will be worth a hill of beans if the 3rd is a bust. But at least the process hasn't been painful (other than wasted time being done).
