Mike, you did a real nice job on welding that rear tub! I couldn't tell it was your first attempt at welding.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

Well I got the other side cut and mocked up!
Much better than the other side! I should have cut the other medium bronze wheel well up to keep the general color the same. Oh well I may change it later.
Here's a few pics of it ready to get welded... after I get a new bottle of gas! I guess I had a leak! Lol thanks for following along!

Thank you Scott! I think this one came out much better.
I guess we will tell next week after I get another bottle of gas.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

Well I worked this week in the evening getting the floor done. The bottom is buttoned up and I need to do some final weld prep on the floor topside. Anyway here is a picture of the bottom. More pics next week when I return from the weekend.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

Well I'm considering buying these wheels.
Sooo, I brought them home for a test fit.
Rears are 20X12 with 7.5" of BS with 335/35/20 tires.
The fronts are 20X8.5 with 245/45/20 tires.
The rears were sent to Detroit to get 2" added to the stock rims.
Ive been working on cutting and buffing the sheetmetal some more but I'm not too versed in it and really want it to shine.
Enjoy the pics and thanks for following along!

Well I still have this truck and it’s been a busy time lately. So I thought I’d post a few current pics.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

It's nice to see another GMC build! I wasn't looking for a truck like that back in 2009, but wish I could have found it here a couple years ago! One owner trucks like that are the best. And these trucks survive pretty well in this high desert.

Do you have it running and driving?

Yes it’s actually on it’s 2 chassis which is the original one. I did a Big Block/400 SwB chassis, right after I bought it, that had all the matching number SwB BB stuff. Then redid the original chassis again. Here’s a few pic I don’t think I posted yet of the firewall cleanup and the rallies.

Yes these are 10” versions. I initially bought a set of 16x12’s but got these after I looked at tire prices. Lol I couldn’t find any tires under $342 each for 16” stuff that I liked. I bought the 295 on these 10” wheels for $220 shipped to my door!

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

Well today’s update is bad news. Took the truck for a drive and the rear ended locked up going down the road. I was not impressed with the craigslist rear ended I bought. The posi unit is ruined too. The pinion yoke is seized and won’t spin. I’ll have to get a friend to go through it now. I don’t think anything in the center section is savable.

Those are awesome! Where did you find them wide like that? That really blows what happened to your diff. Good luck on the repair.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

We have a guy that comes to our swap meet in Feb every year that brings a set and I buy them every year. I think wheel vintiques does them too. I found these trim rings on a street rod site and I had the GMC nos center caps for a while. I cleaned/blasted, primed and painted the rims black on the rear and silver on the front. Thanks for following along.

Nice GMC man. I'd be curious to know what caused the diff to grenade if you are able to find out.

Well not good news. I was assured it was a rebuilt good to go rearend... well it might have been if he would have done it correctly. It’s my fault I tried to save money and buy this one. You know the saying.... you’ll always spend whatever it costs the second time to do it right. This has never set in more to me now. And I doubted it that day. Pinion gear and race welded together from heat and the gears were blue. No oil after I opened the rearend. Must have leaked out after filled. It sucks but it was setup incorrectly so it would have happened either way.

I’ve enjoyed this long ride. Don’t get in a hurry just have a good time with it. Don’t let it disrupt the family finances either. In the end these are just trucks.

Re: 1972 GMC Mis-Represented

Well... this is the closing post off this truck as it now has new owner. I’ll close it out with the completed pics of the truck before I delivered it to a friend that will take great care of it. There is still a few odd and ends to do after I rebuilt the rearend and he will finish them.
I’m starting a new build thread of a truck I bought. This new truck has had a lot done to it since I bought it 2 years ago or so. The name will be very similar to this one.
Thanks’s to everyone that followed along!
