Timing Gear Drive

I am installing a gear drive on my SBC 350. Has anyone done this? What timing cover did you get to work and is there a specific size cam button to use? Thanks

Re: Timing Gear Drive

I used a stock-type stamped chrome cover and it fit fine. Had what looked like same button you are using, but not certain on height. This was used on a street/strip 57 with a tunnel rammed 327, not a daily driver. To some the annoying sound is music (it was to me in this car), but I personally would not want it on my daily driver pickup - in that scenario, I am with sheepdip, it gets annoying after awhile (again, that's just me). Yours looks exactly like the Pete Jackson gd I had, and it will be very loud. (and it can sometimes attract the wrong kind of attention)

Re: Timing Gear Drive

.

Hope you can post a sound clip of that gear whining. I've never installed a GD but I've listened to a few and really liked the sound.

Thanks for the info. I will try a smaller cam button. The one with the kit would have to be ground down too much.

Re: Timing Gear Drive

So I had to go with this style timing chain cover. The cam button I grinded down to 0.75 to get the 5 thousandths clearence. Got it back together and I like the sound. Its not terribly loud. I thought it would be louder. I bought the noisy set and read on many different forums about how terribly loud they are. It could be because I have a loud exhaust setup that it over powers the gear drive noise. If I figure how to post a video I will.
