I kind of doubt it. Since the Palomino is a 1 of 1 model. That's as rare a a GM vehicle gets.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

Ahh... I was confused. GMC produced a '57 model for Autorama called the Palomino. Yes, 1 of 1. Beginning in '58 a truck could be special ordered with a tan / gold paint scheme similar to Palomino. Several folks have come to the forum looking for info about the '58 Golden trucks.

It is. And scanning the other pictures you can see alternate colors of paint showing where gold has been removed.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

Looking at the Palomino in several photos online you can see that they dug into the Chevy parts bin for the bed and then added their own custom touches. Outside of the ribbed decorative panels at the front of the bed sides and a few other custom made pieces and the custom sewn seats a person could collect photos and build a pretty close duplicate if they had a mind to.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

ogre went down the rabbit hole looking for palomino

info from jim carters, pic is a screen grab
it is a 1 of 1, still has the original one off tires and original condition
basically a gmc suburban pickup (cameo) with leather interior and gold paint
it sold in 2012 for $197k, probably get a cool million at pandemic pricing

1957 GMC Palomino
Owner: Ralph Wescott
1957 gmc palomino pick up truck

You can’t get more unusual than 1 of 1. This is how Ralph Wescott of Largo, FL describes his 1957 GMC Palomino. General Motors built only one! It was produced to draw attention to their truck display at the New York Autorama show in 1957. Fortunately, its prior four documented owners recognized it as special. It has been mostly in storage and only a few recent car shows have had it on display. The Palomino now has 9,350 miles and almost no restoration has been done. Even the original custom leather seat is free of age cracks. The engine sounds like new as it slowly moves out of its enclosed trailer. It occasionally may be driven in the neighborhood or at a car show.

Gm designed this special 1/2 ton around a fully optional assembly line model. This includes a deluxe cab, Pontiac V-8, Hydramatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, radio, deluxe heater, Cameo style bed, windshield washers, etc. The manufacturer then added additional features that set it apart from the others. In the following photos note items such as (Palomino only) gold paint, custom leather seat and door panels, script trim panels over the front edge of the bed and gold floor mat.

One of its more unique items are the U.S. Royal Master tires. Ralph states GM requested U.S. Royal to produce 5 with this unusual rubber sidewall. After 50 years they are still in on their original 15′ rims! When not at a show the Palomino is in temperature controlled storage out of the sun to protect the leather interior, it’s original paint and bed.

Based on Ralph saying his Palomino is not for sale at any offer, we will refer to it as ‘priceless.’

2012 NEWS FLASH UPDATE

Ralph at 75years old finally decided to sell some of his most prized low mileage show trucks at his own auction that was nationally advertised. The Palomino was given a value by the last bidder. It brought $197,000.00 by a west coast buyer. WOW! See what happens when you have the only one GM ever made.

Not on CL but, I found 3 AD trucks for sale while we were doing a poker run this weekend. All have been outside for 30+ years, so I’m not sure if there’s anything good left. I believe he wants about $800 each, if anyone is interested I can get the owners info.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

I paid 100 for the pair for these two in 2011 and all I wanted was the back half of the red/orange cab. The red one would have been the ideal S-10 swap candidate in that the frame had so much junk welded to the back of it to mount a water tank and pump and who knows what else that there and there was about 500 lbs of metal welded to it. My daughter laid claim to the green one.

Prices have gone up a bit in the past few years.

Most of them you see posted in Washington or Oregon are in the eastern parts east of the Cascade Mountain range or were found there.

Ellensberg is Hay country where the main crop is Timothy hay. A lot of those flatbeds were hay trucks in that area back in the 50's and 60's. The Green one I Have that I posted up above still has an Oregon title from 1984 when it was used on a farm in Oregon. The orange one hauled a big tank with a pto driven pump around the Washington wheat fields for years.

I'd bet that that green 57 was just as the add said, parked one year and never used again as they either didn't need it after that.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

I'd say that too many of those farmers spend the winter watching American Pickers and think that their old farm trucks have turned to gold. That green 57 is about the nicest ran when parked truck I have seen in a while though.

It's west of St Helens about 5.4 miles.

Montana plates and the condition says it was bought in Montana for about 500 by a guy planning to make a killing flipping it.

Or to live. I watch CL ads from that area all the time. Hard to imagine finding an 82 Chevette diesel running and driving and in good shape in any other part of the country.
