SM465 Stuck After Removing Shifter

I removed my shifter to make it easier to install new carpet. Now that the carpet is in I put the shifter back on and it won’t move at all. Does anyone know what’s going on with this? Thanks

Did you have the lever in the neutral position when you removed it? It sounds like the inside ball end is outside of the shifter forks. You will have to pull it back out and make sure the lever shaft is straight up and down when you put it back in. If you did not have it in neutral you will have to figure out what gear you had it in when you removed it and put it back in with the lever in that position.

I didn’t pay attention what gear it was I wen I removed it. It’s odd because it drops right in and I can lock it in fine, just can’t move it. So you’re saying if it was in 3rd gear when I removed it the stick would have to be in the position of 3rd gear when it goes back in? It’s seems to only drop in place in one specific spot.

Did you have to move the forks to neutral?
