Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
The radio I received from them operates quite poorly, specifically the AMFM reception. Installed a new antenna from the truck shop and it just does not get any reception. Very disappointing.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I had one a number of years ago and the the pre-set buttons quick working shortly after the warranty was done. Called RS and they wouldn't do a thing.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
So far I have not had issues with mine, but I have only had it 6 months. Not sure what I would do next time so as to keep an uncut dash.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Any decent alternatives? I'd like to have something in my truck but I don't really want to pay $300 for a cheap and cheesy unit.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I have a Retrosound in my 51. I don't like the cheap chrome plastic. Also get tons of noise through the speakers when hooked to an amp.
I changed to a bluetooth amp and run it off my phone, much better. On my 64 suburban I will put in an old stock radio ( don't care if it works) and use a similar blutooth amp.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I installed a Retrosound unit in my 69 a few years ago. It works well but was a PITA to install in the dash. Instructions were generic and almost useless. I'm not even sure they gave me the proper mounting plate/adapter.
A few years earlier I installed a customer's Custom Autosound unit in his 66 (same dash cut-out, I think) and had no problems at all. I didn't use C/A for the 69 because their power specs are "pie-in-the-sky" peak power, which is essentially meaningless and meant to "wow" buyers. I sure wish Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Clarion and the rest would reintroduce 3-hole radios. There has to be a huge market for them, with classic vehicle popularity going through the roof. That, and I have to wonder how many people are replacing factory radios in newer vehicles, especially since most are integrated with navigation and HVAC controls. That has to be a seriously dying market. Retrosound in 69 dash (that needs some touch-up!)

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Sent that Retro radio back to have it checked; the reception just sucks.
If it is better when I get it back, can anyone recommend an amp for it? Those speakers I got with it are just weak. Not looking for a kick-ass system, just some volume so I can hear over the road noise. Thanks.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I live in an area that has little to no reception. Just one hokey country station. I like country music but not the garbage that they play. So I've basically got nothing. I use my phone. I've got Pandora (I think?) My wife set it up because I'm a moron. Works great. Not loud enough for me but it never is.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Another alternative is to leave the stock radio and install a hidden bluetooth unit. A quick search turned these up.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I have one in my mustang that doesn’t like to change volume. I’m not sure how old of a unit it is but I’m not impressed.

Is Retro Sound the same company as Long Beach Sound?

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Never heard of that company, but Long Beach is one of retro sound's popular radio/stereo models

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I just installed the Retro Sound Santa Cruz model in my 91. Fit and finish was good. Installation was easy. The radio design and mounting location was used from 88-94 in the GM trucks and Retro Sound is the only one I found offering a replacement radio to fit in the OE location. It has an auxiliary input to play from phone if I want. I bought from Crutchfield. Definitely need new speakers now though. The one on the right is the OE radio for comparison. The equalizer/cassette player is still in the dash just to fill the hole until I can find a new bezel with pocket there.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I emailed RetroSound and they said I could send the radio back for inspection. Here's what they said:
Test and inspection have been completed for RA # 06035. Test & Inspections: Turner on radio seem to work sporadically when tech first tested the different modes/functions of radio. Tech performed a factory reset which has seem to rectify the issue. Sound/Audio is good with clear reception all local radio stations. AUX, Bluetooth & USB all play music. I got it back and still the same crappy reception - no different. What the hell.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Gotta love the "seems to work" comments. Pretty sad, when they could have simply replaced it for probably less than $50 their cost.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
Very true - disappointed with this product. I emailed them and let them know it is not any better. We'll see what they say.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
RetroSound just sent me an email with an RMA; said they would exchange the radio for a new one. Hope that fixes the issue.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with RetroSound?
I looked at retro sound, but ended up going with a Custom Autosound Slidebar unit in my 68 as it had a nice retro look. My grandfather has had a aftermarket radio in his 55 Chevy from the same place since the 80s and its been a really good radio. The unit in my truck is not the same quality as the unit from the 80s but it does a good job for what little I use it and it fills the stock hole as my truck had a cheap mess wired in when I got it.
