Muncie 3 speed pin removal?

I'm tearing down my Muncie 3 speed out of a 1972 c10. I believe it's a 330. I'm replacing the extension bushing and all the gaskets. I'm trying to remove the reverse ideler shaft so I can move the reverse ideler gear out of the way. The manual says to drive the reverse ideler shaft and key out of case with a brass drift. However there is hardly any room inside the transmission to get a punch or hammer in there. Does anyone have experience removing this pin? Any help is appreciated...

Thanks!

There’s a small hole on the bottom of the case to drive the pin out.
Here’s a youtube link that shows the disassembly. Hope this helps.

Re: Muncie 3 speed pin removal?

Thanks for the reply Trash. I took a look at the video. I think that's the older model without the synchronizes. Mine has them but doesn't have any pin that I can see other than the main pin going through the ideler gear shown in the pictures. It's marred on the outside end like it was difficult to get in when it was last put in. Just not sure how to get any real pressure on it from the inside out.

I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Re: Muncie 3 speed pin removal?

Why can’t you drive it from the outside in. Reinstall same way outside in???

Re: Muncie 3 speed pin removal?

The manual I have shows it has a key on it and says drive it out. I guess I assumed it needed to be driven from the inside out. Do you know for sure if it can be driven in?

Sorry I do not know for sure but it makes since. That’s what I would do.
Are there any tranny shops around that you might ask??

Re: Muncie 3 speed pin removal?

Thanks everyone for the input. I decided to go all in and drive it with a long tapered punch from the inside out. The end of the pin had a dimple that the punch fit into at an angle. It took some hard hits, but it finally popped out. Here are a few pictures in case someone else runs into this same issue.
