Question Shifters?

Might buy a 69 gmc with 3 on the tree! If I leave it manual I will move it to the floor. If I take it auto it will be a th400 I have in the shed. So, what shifters are you guys using? Or,what will it take to convert the 3 spd to a th400? I have the crossmember! And will also use a floor shifter!

Hurst was alway my favorite as far as manual linkage. If you can find one of those old Mystery shifters, they were a pretty good shifter for a 3 spd........its been a few yrs, so I doubt if they still are made. I ran a vertical gate hurst on my old frame car(400 Ponch, with a M21 muncie)..........FUN! thats been eons ago also! as far as swappin the 400 T, you will need to change the slip yolk, & trim the shaft. The shorty 400 t is approx 11/16 " longer than a saginaw 3spd, or a short tail 350 t. I run a B&M Z gate in the longhorn, bottom of the line, not a true ratchet but a good bang shifter. Good luck......Crazy AL

I am doing my 70 now, least soon as these storsm stop. Using a Hurst Indy Shifter. It's a models especially for the 3 speeds tree to floor trucks. Around $80 from Summit, plus the Boot (nother 17). Mr Gasket also makes one, but it looked and felt flimsy compared to the Hurst.

Can't say yet how I like it, since this is my first time doing this changeover.
