Leveling out my truck - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 72 C10 1/2 ton that sits haunched at the front (the bed sits higher than the front). Anyways, I wanted to level it out so the bed and the front are the same height. I want to lift it so this isn't a lowering question. Would springs from a 3/4ton level it out or is there more that needs to be done? Also, I know this question is probably asked all the time, but what is the widest rim I can put on it with no mods? Thanks for the input.

Is it a leaf spring truck? If it is just start adding leafs until you get it level. I dropped mine too far, so I started pulling and adding leafs until i got it level. If you want to see what 3/4 ton springs would do, just look and measure one.

I guess I'd go for new front coils if yours are old and see how much height I picked up..... how much height difference are we talking about here...???

There's not a huge difference, but the bed is noticably higher than the front. I know alot of trucks look like that anyway, but I personally prefer the level look.

My truck did the same thing when I first got mine. Easy fix. Get some new coils for the front. If your truck came originally with a 6 cylinder and then was replaced with a v-8 then most likely you have 6 cylinder springs. That was the situation with mine.

Most of the trucks come stock about 1-2 inches higher in the rear because the springs are stiffer and when loaded they will drop some. When they are loaded to capacity they are lower in the rear. If you want it to ride level in the unloaded condition then you need to raise the front with stiffer springs (3/4 ton) or put softer springs in the rear. I would go for the softer springs in the rear or just load some sand bags in the back...cheapest way to go. Drive if like that for a few months and see what you think.
