Re: 67 Tailgate

I have found this topic sort of intriguing today...here are some more data points showing the 68-69 stamping was the same (at least that is my personal conclusion).

First, there is this old thread that the seller describes the tailgate as a '69 tailgate...has the same stampings as '68 gates in this thread.

Then there is also the tailgate in the attached pictures...69+ lower trim present on the tailgate with stampings also found on '68 tailgates.

This thread suggests/confirms that the stamping changed in 1970 (70-72 had same stampings).

So in conclusion it appears there were the three groups of varying tailgate stamps that break down as follows: '67 type, '68-'69 type, and '70-'72 type.

Re: 67 Tailgate

I by mistake started another thread very similar to this where I asked what the speedbump in the back stamping meant. Turns out I have a 68 gate because of the break in the stamping of that line. See pics below

I think that is a '69 tailgate. The GMC letters you have are the 69-72 "big letter" style. The letters were much smaller in 67-68.

In post 26, there are a few examples that appear to show that 69 tailgates had the same break in the speed bump as the 68 tailgates. I think your tailgate is further proof based on the big letters it has.

Re: 67 Tailgate

I have a 69 C10 tailgate with the split bumps, just like the 68. This was an 504 yellow green poly truck, which wasn't available in 68. the tailgate had one repaint with the 504 paint showing behind it.

This truck also did NOT have a stove pipe, which was another contested thing that most think 69 auto trucks had. This one did not.

It's almost like they used what was available. I doubt there was someone on the assembly line saying, "No John, that's a one-year only tailgate for the 68's, don't put it on the 69"
