1 1/2 ton question

A friend of mine has a 58 (I think) 1 1/2 ton duallie that I could probably get for a couple hundred. How hard would it be to take a modern (67-72 ) 250/ 4 speed combo and throw in it? Would it be worth fooling with?

I was thinking the same thing. They are a bothersome truck to work on and one of us should save you from the horror of it all.

You may have to do something with the rear engine mount. I don't know what 67 -72 used. But it would be a cool truck to roll around in with a little updating.

Re: 1 1/2 ton question

Anyone have any pics of a similar truck so I know what to expect? Any trouble spots common to these trucks? I'm a 67+ guy so I don't have a clue.

Re: 1 1/2 ton question

Ton and a half?
THe 40 series had a wheelbase of 132 and 156wb and were available up to 14k GVW. THe 50 series were actually the rare big snub nose trucks going up to 32k GVW. The most common 60 series were around 13K to 16K GVW. The 40 and 60 series truck use the wider front sheet metal with the flared out fenders. THe 1/2t to 1 ton series 3000 used the pickup sheet metal. I think the 40 up series are nameplate Viking series and the other of course Apache.
