Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

I haven't been on the board in a bit, but this/your story always peaked my interest. It is so very cool you now have the truck. For whatever reason, the pic on post #57 of you driving down the highway, arm hanging out the driver's door.... I can't help but think your grandpa is right there with you. This is so bittersweet, that sadly he's gone, but ...with your persistence....you got it back. This is absolutely SO cool. Contrats, ...and no doubt, grampa is smiling down upon you everytime you sit in it

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve been enjoying the blue gmc to the fullest lately

I have had a lot of folks ask if I would like to sell it, I just laugh… literally

I take it to show events and just cruise in it all over the place

It’s a blast!!!

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

This is what owning that truck is all about. Getting out and driving! Get it out of that field before it ends up sitting again for years!

I don't laugh when people ask about me selling my '72. I just smile and say "This is my keeper".

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

It had around 75,000 original miles. Now it has over 78,000 miles

I drive this truck everywhere. I’ve been grinning ear to ear every single day, while I go down the road

So many folks stop and ask me and I say not for sale!!!

It’s just hard to believe my dream and my determination paid off and I have it

I am far older now then I was when I first join this forum, and a lot wiser with that. I take this truck to events and just cruise all over my local towns etc

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Cleaned up the interior today. A good friend helped me with the HEI issue I had, (didn’t have a clue about the wiring)

It’s got a new cap, internal coil and rotor cap. It runs better and more power it feels like and eventually I’m going to put new plugs in.

I would enjoy the AC, but I am not sure if it works or not

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Made some changes on the truck!!

Getting stock hubcaps soon as well.

Cleaned up the remaining trim, interior etc a few weeks ago

Trucks about to hit 80,000 original miles!!!

Good news!!!

Gmc called me a week ago

“Just got a phone call from General Motors pertaining about my story on my Great Grandfather and Grandfather Schrums 1971 GMC Truck. I got a call from a number near Detroit, Michigan and I was like who in the world Lol. The man on the phone called me, to tell me to submit the story

Told him, that it would be great to share the story, to not only inspire people about their family’s old truck but it would be a great thing for GMC. To say, our customers have such a love and dedication for our trucks and so on

A person (from General Motors) would follow up with me soon

What a beautiful way to start my Monday“

FOLLOW UP ON GM STORY

This made my day,

I just got a call from a GM representative in Michigan. That works for GMC. I just got off the phone with him and he apologized for not closing the loop on what was going on. He told me that they ran a big story on my truck within the company, with the Employees and he said it was a success and that basically, everybody loved reading it and seeing the photos and he said he is going to send me a beautiful copy of it so I can frame it and hang it up on my wall

It is a great feeling to know that the Gmc company appreciates my story and shared it within the company about the love and heritage of an old truck and people absolutely loved it !!!

Very cool story about GMC! I can't believe you got through to an executive or representative who took your story and ran with it.

Showing your story is a no brainer for GMC. It beats anything all their marketing departments over the years could dream up. It's reality advertising, true life.
