Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

so with this EV conversion going super smoothly and fast, I decided to also do a slant nose hood conversion, yup, bought this beauty site unseen at night in the rain for only one crisp Benjamin

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

now I'm sure some of you have heard of the Slant Nose, but this is the SS aka the Super Slant nose, you see it is slanted 2" more [ahem, on one side]

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

now before I show you the final result let me just share that The Greg went out and bought one of these fancy Vevor $400 let me say that again FOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR dent pullers that absolutely positively suck, unless both me and Patrick are doing something completely wrong, I mean these welds just don't hold, fellers I tried this on my cab and now on my hood and we could not get these to stick at all

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

so after trying to pull dents with a MIG welder we had to resort to the drill a hole and use a slide hammer to pull, hence the swiss cheese look, nothing we can't fill with a MIG and hours worth of grinding

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

those were quarters by the way, and I think I went through 4 wire wheels per side ie half a hood

yes counting the labor and price of materials, consumables, not to mention the 90 mile drive one way to buy that thing, we could have bought 3 aftermarket hoods instead, I get it

I love rebuilding steering columns, said nobody ever!

Go with the clear on the shaft, do a stare and compare and then decide.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

So inquiring minds want to know, what did you do with the hood? You sort of left us hanging...

ha ha, it's acid washed, looked even better after I pressure washed it, but I'm just polishing a turd, this is the worst hood I ever worked on, problems, problems everywhere

So much work going in to that hood. Are better/decent hoods that hard to find in the Sacramento area?

honestly I think so especially if I want the 67-68 slant nose, if you see one it's $500 bucks and usually 3 hour drive away (at these gas prices)

I have a decent '71 hood leaning up against the house, but you know that would be too easy
