Thumbs up Best place to buy glass

Getting ready to buy wind wing glass for my truck. I’m getting a measurement of 5/16 on the frame and 1/4 inch on the glass. What’s everyone’s experience with the accuracy of the glass thickness has it been different depending on manufacturer.

Re: Best place to buy glass

i use black urethane to install glass, originally they used glass setting tape but i find that to be a fiddly chore. the only thing I will say though is have the wing window frame in the wing window assembly with the new edge seal installed on the assembly, to get the depth of the glass in the frame correct. there is a lip on the seal the glass sits against and when you use urethane it can be too far out or in on that seal.

i get glass from LMC but mostly because they are semi-local and i can pick up, saving the crating and (much higher) shipping charges for glass. and I get a 10% discount for paying at the counter. i have seen complete glass kits from autocity on ebay, i have heard good things about them too.

Re: Best place to buy glass

If you have a piece of the old glass any good full service glass shop that cuts laminated glass can cut them for you.

Bobs up I 5 in Oregon doesn't show separate vent glass but it doesn't hurt to ask. There is the possibility that because of labor rates it may be less espensive to buy from them and pay shipping than have it made locally. I don't try to second guess local prices vs online prices anymore. https://www.vendio.com/stores/bobscl...4317488/page=1

The Filling Station in Lebanan Oregon shows them for 30 bucks each. Your choice of clear or three levels of tint. https://store.fillingstation.com/sho...&searchtype=FT

30 bucks each plus extra shipping charges adds up though. Truth is if the local guys stay under 40 bucks a piece you are probably better off with them. I can see between 80 and 100 total cost for having them shipped.

Glass work is one thing that I hate do do myself and I'll pay the glass folks to do the install.

before truk went wingless, i had replaced the setting tape in the drives side. it required two clamps, a block of wood and a hammer too get the glass seated with tape. scary...
with electric windows i used the black urethane, easy peasy!

Not sure if there's much difference in the glass. You can watch these videos for some info on the process:

Or he also does the resto for you if you want, local guy that does good work.

Re: Best place to buy glass

Auto City has a good rep with a lot of groups on the net.

Still with the cost of shipping and if you are only buying flat glass it would be prudent to check with your local full service glass shop to either cut the glass for you or to cut and install the glass. Check all of the options rather than assuming that everythign for these trucks including glass has to be ordered on line.

Re: Best place to buy glass

I’ll my glass from auto city showed up this week, I can tell you this, they don’t mess around with packing this stuff. You could drop it off the roof and by fine. It all looks great too. Haven’t installed it yet but I’m sure it’ll be good to go.

Re: Best place to buy glass

Thanks everyone for your input. I got a price of $505 from Bobs today+ $60 for shipping on clear glass today.

Thanks mrbuck, auto city glass is one I’ve also been looking to order from.

One of the differences I have noticed is some places sell all laminated glass while others sell laminated front but the rest is tempered. The kit with the tempered is the more expensive kits.

Mr 48 I checked with my local glass shop and got a price of about $280 on the flat laminated glass + I would still need to purchase my corner glass.

Re: Best place to buy glass

That is 280 and no shipping though.

If it were me I'd just get my Steele window rubber, the quarter windows and have the local glass shop do it. That is one of the very short list of things that I prefer to pay someone else to do and I really don't care who knows it or that they think I am copping out because I don't like to fight with glass.

Even if I bought all the glass online I would find out who the local side job Bob is as far as auto glass installation and hire someone to do it.

Side note, you are probably way too young to have known her but my aunt managed the Bank of America branch in Yuba City for a number of years.
