steering column / steering wheel
Can somebody tell me what tilt steering column this is? is this a factory steering wheel, or aftermarket with "chevy truck" glued to the horn button?
I have glued the chevy truck emblem on the horn button straight since this old picture lol.

Re: steering column / steering wheel
The column looks mid 70's early 80's four speed truck as there is no sign of a shift handle on it.
I've seen those wheels before but can't remember what model they came on.

Re: steering column / steering wheel
It might also be a van steering column 1970's era. The colum in my 59 truck is not a tilt but has the 4 way flasher in the same location. It came out of a 71 chevy truck with manual transmission....steering wheel looks like it might be from a lt camaro or trans am....Like mr48chevy said...I seen it before but just cant seem to remember

Re: steering column / steering wheel
Mid 70's but would have to measure overall length to determine van, motorhome, truck or car

Re: steering column / steering wheel
The no key may be a Van column that someone has smoothed the shift handle out on or swapped the shift collar out on too. It's a rather clean looking column for a tilt out of a later model (meaning 70's/80's).

Re: steering column / steering wheel
The turn and tilt knobs indicate mid-late 70's but those are easily swapped onto a later one, but most people would have left them. My guess is van with the auto cup shaved

Re: steering column / steering wheel
When I was taking mine apart to get the lock out so I could get it keyed I googled and found a site that had complete dis and reassembly instructions with pics. I looked in my archives and could not find the link, but googled GM tilt steering colum repairs and a bunch of site and youtube videos popped up.

Re: steering column / steering wheel
Biggest killer of tilt wheels, they are designed for rotational stress not lateral. Install a grab bar on the A pillar...

Re: steering column / steering wheel
Thanks for the input guys. I don't know which column it is, but I think it is an unmodified column from an 80s car, based on what the fella who built the truck 10 years ago could remember.

Re: steering column / steering wheel
I'm pretty sure that you have a van tilt- especially since there's no ignition key in the column.
