Replacement fuel tank wrong size

I have a 1970 c10 long bed step side that I ordered a new fuel tank for. The tank that I got is not like the one I had. All the tanks i find don't look right. Are there different cab mount fuel tanks for this truck other than what I am finding because they all look the same as far as replacement ones go.

Re: Replacement fuel tank wrong size

I put a replacement in my 69 chevelle and the exhaust pipes hit on the rear corners! Was fine with the old one. Unless there are different part numbers, I believe you only have a vented (70 and earlier non-vented cap) and non-vented (71-72 vented cap) option...

Re: Replacement fuel tank wrong size

My tank is not near as tall as the ones I am finding, mine is about 17" tall and the replacement is about 23" tall. It just don't seem to fit.

Re: Replacement fuel tank wrong size

I believe most tanks are right at 20 gallon capacity, but some (relatively few) are about 16 gallons. I'll see if I can get a rough measurement of the height of my 20-gallon tank.

Edit: Mine looks to be roughly 18" tall (tank only) and about 20" or so counting the mounting tabs.

Re: Replacement fuel tank wrong size

I'm pretty sure our tanks are 17 gallons....
I did a 62 and the tank behind the seat was similar in length but the height was much shorter. any possibility your tank was swapped out

Yep. I do believe that's what happened. I'm pretty sure the tank that was in the truck is a 60-66 tank.
