Whats good on youtube nowadays?

Whats anything new or different you have been watching?

I have been stopped from working on my project trucks by a medical problem, so i have been watching a bit of the youtube. Kinda getting sick of the cleeter mcdoofus burnout types and the vice grip wannabes. Cant stand the people who are obsessed with doing everything for cheap or free.

I found some cool videos of industrial welding and repairs on big machinery. Like most you you im interested in trucks, metal fab, building and construction and the like. Got any interesting ones to share?

Matts offroad recovery, Fabrats, Robby Layton were all cohorts on a recovery/restoration of (Eds golden nugget).. a suzuki lj20 they drug out of Eds old mining camp and restored back to better than new condition..mostly all in secrecy from Ed
and also a sister build/restoration that bikes and beards and Robby Layton did to Eds Rokon motorcycle that he used in the mine..its a pretty good series..they also do lots of other nice builds and such

I like Finnegan's Garage for something not always car related (jet boat stuff).
Flying Sparks Garage is also good. Not always doing stuff the cheapest or free stuff. They have a neat C20 service bed truck.

Re: Whats good on youtube nowadays?

I tend to watch interviews with WWII, Korea and Vietnam Vets who talk about their time in Hell. I relate because my dad was a Korea Veteran (Navy FO inland with the Marines) and his older brother, the one I'm named after was a Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner on a B-17 with the 8th out of England. Both damned lucky to have survived.

Re: Whats good on youtube nowadays?

lot of different things but I'm getting burned out on all the commercials interrupting things. 30 seconds up to a minute for the video to even start in some circumstances, then the owner of the video has to do their own commercial for the sponsorship--another minute or more---, then another 3 or 4 during the video.

If you run A d b l o c k P l u s as an extension to chrome, all of that gets blocked out. No ads at all. My current combo of stuff that deletes all of the youtube ads are...

Adblock Plus
Disable HTML 5 Autoplay
Privacy Badger

... all 3 of those are extensions to chrome that you can find in the Chrome Store under the "Customize and Control Chrome ( 3 dot menu ) => More Tools => Extensions" menu...just type in the name of the extension in the "Search Extensions" text box then download and install.

I find that extremely annoying as well. I don't want any of the garbage that they're pimping.

Re: Whats good on youtube nowadays?

i still like diesel creek. he gets into enough different stuff that its interesting consistently. andrew camarata too, both of those channels are about building and demolition and regular maintenance.

although i will admit camaratas channel has been more about his wealth and how he is spending it lately. where before it was "my alternator went out while driving and here is how to fix it" its now "the track came off my third track loader and so I will take my sxs up to my 4 wheeler mountain camp to fix it". hes still a humble guy, dont get me wrong, but he is losing touch a little i think.

the local youtube guys to me used to be interesting but now they are just giant complainers. you can only take so much of that. my favorite youtube guy doesnt comb through his video comments just to argue, he never friends any subscribers, and generally just lives his life with a camera, thats the way to be in my opinion.

Re: Whats good on youtube nowadays?

I watch very few car/truck things these days. Im suffering from overload burnout. It used to be you did your car stuff with family and some close car buddies. Finding stuff was in magazines from Hot Rod to Hemmings. Car shows were small. You never saw super cars anywhere. You learned skills like welding via someones dad or community college.

Now you open one thing on youtube about a car and down the side there are a zillion (not exaggerating) vids on ... Will it run after 50 years upside down buried in the bank of a river! Barn finds over and over, First wash after 20 years under a coconut palm!

While I do occasionally need something car/truck Id have to say I really lean towards music and educational things. Things that make you think. Not flat earth kind of thinking haha!

I saw one last nite where a car came in for an oil change. Someone installed LED lights underneath with a staple gun. Even stapled the gas tank a few times.

Re: Whats good on youtube nowadays?

My top 2 at the moment is Iron Trap Garage and 4 Speed Films.

Iron Trap is great if you like early traditional hot rods and building cars similar to how it was done in the 40s through the early 60s. Plus he also takes the camera on the road where he goes to estates and collections buying parts.

https://www.youtube.com/c/IronTrapGarage

4 Speed Films is just some nice camera work with cars from a young guy.
