5 to 6 lug conversion
So as the title says, what would it take to convert to a 6 x 5.5 lug pattern. I really like the look of the newer 20" LTZ chevy truck wheels.
If I remember correctly 3/4 tons are 6 lug. but what about the rear end? is there a way to easily get 6 lug axles and drums into a 72 rear end? |

Re: 5 to 6 lug conversion
Just swap out the whole rear end. If you're lucky you can find one of the late 70/early 71 rear ends that are 6 lug and the same width as the 72 rear end (I know they exist, I have one). Otherwise an early 70-back 6 lug rear end will work, it will just be 3/4 inch narrower on each side (1 1/2 inch total).

Re: 5 to 6 lug conversion
I thought the newer truck wheels hhave the wrong offset. If you need spacers may as well get adapters instead. Theirs plenty of guys swapping to 5 lug I'm sure if you look around you can find a rear end cheap. Pick up a 6 lug disc brake kit for the front and you'd be set.

Re: 5 to 6 lug conversion
I swapped my 72 2wd blazer to six bolt. I bought axles and rotors from Early Classic. I can't remember what it cost me, but I know it was under $600.00 not the cheapest way but I thought that it beat trying to find 40 year old
parts whose condition I was unsure of. The guys at ECE will have everything you need. As far as the offset of newer wheels goes, they do require spacers. You could probably get away without them but it does look funny. I'll try and post some pics up tomorrow of my blazer with and without spacers. Jason Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 5 to 6 lug conversion
3/4 ton trucks have 8 lugs. The 6 lug would be 1/2 tons.

Re: 5 to 6 lug conversion
so if spacers are required anyway then could I not just get a quality set of 5 to 6 lug adapters?
