I am currently working on a 1969 short box step side truck. The box was not attached to the truck when I purchased it. I'm not sure if i'm missing pieces or I'm just missing something but for the life of me I don't see how the cab end of the bed attaches to the frame or any other part of the truck?!? Non of the cross pieces attach to the bed sides the only points of contact to the frame that I have are on the tailgate end. So what supports the bed with out the floor in place or even with it in place? Pictures please!

There should be a narrow strip of wood under the angle strips on each side and the cross members attach through that wood strip. The bed bolts go through the bed wood and through the cross members.

Thank you for your reply! All of the wood and any of the strips had been removed before I got the truck so I never saw how it came apart. So the bed wood is what supports the bed sides and holds the front of the bed up? Nothing attaches to the lower lip of the bed front with the holes in it.I have search for videos but non have showed what is actually supporting the bed sides. I have watched many videos of the wood being replaced and all of the wood being removed yet the bed magically floats at the front. If any one can post a link of a detailed disassembly and assembly of a bed and bed wood I would be grateful.

This exploded view from the LMC catalog may help. I'm sure there are better views out there. The cross sills lay on the truck frame, then the wood boards, then the bed sides on top of that. The 8 bed to frame mounting bolts go through the wood, cross sills then the frame. The rear sill #13 has locating brackets attached to locate the bed on the frame. The bed sides bolt through the outside wood floor boards. The other floor boards are held down with metal rub strips and bolts in between the boards. Brothers Trucks or Mar-K are good sources for bed information.

I agree with Boog, and recommend you go to Mar-K for their bed assembly instruction sheets. It's much easier if you assemble the bed, and then put it on the frame. With the bed assembled, there are 8 bolts that go through the bed wood, cross sills and frame hole locations that secure the bed to the frame.

Good idea taping those carriage bolts down for a one man assembly.
