Electroplating of El Paso

Over the years I see these guys popping up on threads here on the board as a good place to get our chrome work done.

If you have used them could you talk about what you had done, price, and overall satisfaction.

I haven't seen a recent thread, but there are lot of old ones. I have some 68 parts I'm looking to get done and would love to hear more recent feedback. Or if you have had stuff done by them awhile back, how's everything holding up?

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

Thanks Leon, yes I did read that, but totally had forgotten about it. I think he was the only one that used them so far. Ill post the name here and see if we can get feed back on them too.

I got a quote on getting my panels grill hoops and head light rings (both NOS) and it was redonkulous! I have NOS in aluminum, but I thought since there is no other aluminum trim those parts chromed would look good with the bumpers and side mirror being chrome.

The place Leon showed the link to .... Any extra feed back on these guys?

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

I had my hubcaps done at Elect. Of El Paso around 9 years ago. Chroming 4 caps with shipping was less than $200. Chrome look good but it wasn't show chrome quality but that's not what I paid for. Chrome peeled from one cap and they must of dropped another cap because it had a dent. I called and mailed them back. They fixed the issues with no problem.

Now at the time Paul's. Chrome quoted me $600-$700 for show chrome.

Now I wanted to chrome my grill pieces also, I went to a local chrome shop in Pittsburgh. They didn't want to do the hoops, said there was a good chance they would get damaged during the polishing process. Said they may have to hand polish with a dremel style tool. So the hoops and headlight trim was gonna cost $550, this was 12 years or so ago.

Let us know what you decide, Nate

Seems like you had an overall good experience with El Paso, why haven't you used them to chrome your hoops?

I purchased repo aluminum pieces, just had my steel peices painted white last week. I was gonna use Electroplating again recently to chrome stuff on a vintage Lil Indian mini bike but some guy wanted it more than me so I sold it.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

I had these grille pieces done at Knoxcustomchrome a while back and went down to have another set done a few weeks ago and their closed down ? I've heard good things about Advanced plating in Nashville so I'm going to ship a set to them and see how it goes . the last pic shows the difference of chrome on the left and aluminum on the right head light bezel

They are done in Mexico, hence the lower cost. I haven’t heard anything bad about them, people I’ve talked to are pleased with what they got.

I use Custom chrome in Akron Ohio. They have a lifetime warranty on their work. Had some plating done 27 years ago and the parts still look like new \\/s.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

There are still a ton of places to get chrome work done. And Im sure most of them do excellent work. But the prices have become outrageous from everything I have read here or over on the HAMB (the only other site I spend any amount of time on). And with the EPA regulations going through the roof stuff you had done 20 or 30 years will not be comparing apples to apples on having parts done today.

I have read good things about the El Paso shop. Personally I don't care if they ship the stuff to the moon and have it done, why would that even matter? I care that they seem to give good service at a decent price point.

What I haven't seen is anything recent. And I haven't seen any follow up by people that had work by them several years ago. How is everything holding up? Are the rates and service still as good as in the past?

The place Leon mentioned seems to have reasonable rates. But the radio face thread is all I have ever read about them. Love to hear of anyone else's experience with them.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

El paso electroplating is local to me, I can go down there and check out their stuff for you free of charge. I HIGHLY doubt they "ship" their stuff over the boarder to get it chrome plated. Not to mention from their website:

We will contact you upon visual inspection of your items.
All work done in this facility.
No surface preparation is required before shipping items to us.
Disassemble all connected parts.

http://www.electroplatingelpaso.com/english/about-us

1040 Hawkins Blvd, El Paso, TX 79915

Check out the picture of their plating room and then look at the building on google maps. It's all in house.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

I have had El Paso do a couple things and have been pleased with the work. I emailed them pics for an estimate and once I shipped it to them they emailed me back pretty quick on pricing for reg and show chrome and also let me know if there were any issues with the pcs I sent. I got regular chrome done and was very happy with the results. I will be sending more in the near future. Reuben is the one I spoke with.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

Mark,
Here is a before & after pic of the roof rack brackets I sent to them. All in I probably had about $175 with shipping but you can see how bad they were. They did not want me to do any prep work to them, just send as they were.
This was roughly a year ago

The price is right and they look really nice. I think I had seen pictures of them before but didn't realize you had them done at the El Paso place.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

Just got two sets of caps back. Had NOS painted caps chrome plated and stainless caps polished (E of EP also does stainless polishing). Really pleased with the results. Very tough to tell the stainless cap apart from the chrome cap unless the light is just right.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

I sent some shoulder bolts to be rechromed also and just realized these aren’t in the box. I’ll post pics of those when I get them (hoping no issue there). Validates my paranoia about shipping important parts off - it’s why I’m in need of 72 below eyeline mirror arms (uppers). I don’t want to send the set off my truck for polishing and have them go missing.

Got my shoulder belt bolts back. Same as seat belt bolts for 67 I believe. Chrome looks excellent. I had the heads plated and skipped the threads.

Re: Electroplating of El Paso

I just got my GMC emblem back from them. It was broke in one place and they soldered it to repair, then chromed it all. I just painted the black on it this morning. It is not a show piece but it has show chrome now and looks way better than when I sent it. It had some heavy pitting in the centers of the letters but the black paint helps masking that. Reuben was up front with everything and easy to deal with as usual.
