Guy had a surprise encounter that could have ended up much worse. One swat from a juvenile bear in a wilderness area near here could have cost him his life. He was lucky to have survived.

I have seen quite a few black bears over the years, mostly while out walking my dogs. Been within about 40 feet a few times. So far, they have all done their best to vacate the scene as quickly as possible.

I used to see them all the time sometimes real close when out camping, though all I've seen is scat around our place in 18 years. One place I used to go a lot was supposedly a release area for problem bears. You were practically stepping on them around there!

If the wind is right they can't see you if you stand still while they look at you. I managed to stalk up on one up in the Little Belts until I got about 50 feet away and watched him poop

In CO we had one tear a garage door apart to get into garbage. It was sixty miles to the dump and I had several rental cabins to manage so what are you gonna do ??? Before that, it had ripped apart a 4x8 trash trailer. DOW brought up a culvert trap and for some reason that kept it away.

Haha, well played. The swerves and meanderings are part of what makes reading the general discussion worthwhile.

Re: D@#mn Hackers!

Ok two things:

A- bears. That's why they make short barreled .500 s&w magnums. Bears are no longer a problem if you have one.

B- WTF pipeline peeps. 1st off, why is the system available to be hacked into? Critical things like energy are supposed to be offline for this exact reason, its called national security. And 2nd off, why the hell would they pay? Why wouldn't they just erase the whole thing or just install some new computers and get going again? Its doesn't make sense to my non computer brain.

Re: D@#mn Hackers!

I don't understand either. Except, the pipeline may have paid the hackers a ransom but it is we motorists who are paying it.
