Factory Fire wall insulation INSTALL question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I need some help with the 2 pieces of sound/fire wall insulation that go up under the dash. When I removed the old stuff it was falling down and not really held on with any thing. I am assuming that these 2 pieces where glued in place.

1 question What is the correct orientation of these, (see photos)
2 what product will work the best, Was planning of using a 3M contact spray adhesive

From the Pic I need to know what way to place these, I cant seem to figure it out. So in that pic what you see is the side that gets glued to the metal on the cab.

I believe I have the driver side on the left and the Pass on the right.

I believe I have the top of the insulation that goes tight to the leading edge of the cowl and then wrap up towards the dash.

anyone have pics of the factory installed ones for ref.

They were held on from the factory with plastic retainers that pushed thru from inside to outside. Must have been 6 or more. About 3/8 or 7/16 Dia.

I have the ones the use the plastic retainers installed, these are the ones that go up under the dash, Not the ones that sit vertical. these are in the same place that the wiper motor attaches to. and the passenger side is above the glove box liner.

In the pic you can see the black cardboard firewall with blue outline those i have in already, The one that looks like it has fallen black outline on top of the heater box. that is the one I am trying to figure out which way mount

Here are a couple of photos from when I installed mine. The piece that goes over the center hump has triangular cutouts in it that allow it to be folded and stapled together at the top to make it match the shape of the cab. The rubber plugs that secure the insulation to the firewall are a real pain to get through the holes. This tool would likely make things much easier. I have not used one.

Well I finally got some time to get these 2 pieces of factory insulation up and glued under the dash. Here are some photos of the install, not as straight as I would have liked but the adhesive was very much a one time shot. which is good that they won't be come off easy so that is a plus.

Where did you get the grey felt like insulation the goes up under the dash?

GMC puals

I used a 3M 77 contact adhesive and lightly sprayed the under dash after marking out line, and then HEAVLY sprayed the back side of the insulation. waited 3 min and it was a once and done thing, not room or time for a 2nd shot.

Has anyone purchased the lower firewall insulation from LMC? The pieces that look like they are black cardboard backed.
