Heh heh, it takes practice. I've had a lot of these trucks and they were all Chevys. Then I decided I wanted to own a GMC, too, and got the one I have now. Made me more GMC focused.

I'm curious about the paint, too. Do you think everything you have there is original? I'm wondering if the white wasn't a change. Is that white flaking off of yellow or yellow flaking off of white on the firewall?

I’ll post more pics. I don’t have it my hands yet. But took tons of pics when I looked at it. I’ll be picking it up next weekend when the weather warms up a bit.

Re: New to me Stepside 4x4!!

It appears to me original interior and firewall were white. However there is even yellow on the bottom side of box as you'll see, but white under other parts of truck.

I believe it's a 72. Is there something you're seeing that indicates it's a 71? This is my first GMC. I've had Chevs.

Run the VIN. The BE mirrors are 71 style. If the rear view mirror rests on a raised pad stamped into the cab sheet metal then the cab is a 71 my example.

Your sixth digit is a 1, your doors and door panels are not 72, and your review mirror is not mounted on the windshield.

Perfect - thanks for letting me know. Do you think there were more made in 71 than 72 if you were guessing?

KS104-11 20539

Yep - just verified it's a 71 fenderside 4x4 6 cyl built in Oshawa in 71. Still trying to find out how many were made in that plant that year.

Model # is KS15704 - wonder if that gives any indication.

Awesome thanks! So, another question. We can see the Chev numbers produced in specific models, etc. which are published - do you think the Oshawa plant was included in those US numbers if they were sending trucks to the US? You know what I mean?

Re: New to me Stepside 4x4!!

hi Ryanz,Greg here in Nova Scotia.'m not sure if someone already has told you but if you contact GM historical services here in Canada, the info they provide,is for Canadian trucks only.they can't,according to what i've been told when contacting them in the past about info on some of my stuff,is that they don't have or have access to the U.S records,if any still exist.i went through this recently with them, trying to get info about my truck, built in the Fremont,California plant, sold new at Hoffman Chevrolet in Los Angeles.GM Canada couldn't tell me anything about my truck.they told me that in an email we had going back and forth, didn't cost anything cause they couldn't tell me anything.take care.

Alright, thanks for this. I know mine was built in Oshawa. Just looking for how many of them were built in that year of that model.

Yes sir - trying to decide if I'm going to keep the spare tire cut out. I know it was an option up but not sure I love the look of the tire on the side. Not that I hate it, just don't think I prefer it. Perhaps I'll keep it stock but not put the tire on. I've seen some guys do that.

Excellent - so they can tell you how many were built as it states near the middle of that document (number of produced for sale). Much appreciated!

Re: New to me Stepside 4x4!!

Yea, that's kind of a tough one.

I kind of like the wheel and tire mount. If I had it on my truck, I think I would use it.

Congrats on the find. Just be sure to get it in your possession sooner rather than later. I've had more than a few times where I lost out on a vehicle after showing an interest and agreed to come back over the week-end to pick it up.

Now, if not picking it up immediately, I leave a deposit. Then I draft a short document indicating the agreed upon price, the deposit, the balance owed, and the VIN of the vehicle.

Pat
