Question OLD TITLE PROBLEMS Chevy

I Recently purchased a 1957 truck cab at a local swap meet and it has a clean Oregon title, the problem is, the title is from 1975 and it dos'nt have a VIN number, just a serial # also does not have Scale Weight. Does anyone know how to decipher a serial # for that cab? thanks. The Number is 71423603011.

Re: OLD TITLE PROBLEMS Chevy

welcome
vin numbers were new back then,,,started in 54 i think,,,and most just used serial numbers
vins as we know them today began in 1981
does your title and cab match?
you will get more and better responses if this is asked in the 47-59 section

Re: OLD TITLE PROBLEMS Chevy

Welcome. As Mongocanfly said, 17 digit VINS did not come into play until '81. Serial numbers, or frame numbers (on some really old cars and trucks), were used. If the serial # on the title matches the serial # on the plate on the driver's door post, there should be no issues. I can't speak for your state, but just because it hasn't been registered in that many years does not necessarily mean it needs a weight slip. The truck was most likely taken out of the register system many years ago. Have you contacted your local DMV office and asked them these questions?
