I'll say that one a fair amount here at college, but no one seems to understand it anymore Makes perfect sense if you really think about it

I use that one often because it often applies. It's good to make people have to think. If they do it should be clear what is meant

Kinda like "It is but, it isn't"...A phrase my cousin / best friend used all the time. Makes me smile anytime I hear it.

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks

My dad never cussed , and being a logger you might think he did sometimes ,,but when he was horse logging our place back when I was around 8 years old ,,I heard him almost cuss and I will never forget it''
Old Nell the work horse took off with the log behind him and pulled it way past where he should of stopped at ,,,and after my dad caught up with him , he yelled this old saying and he whipped him with the reins all the way a back to the roll- a- way where he should of stopped

He said ,, I'll teach you " You Son of a Bisquit Eater " to do that again

They used to come up with alternatives in the name of decency.

I remembered one today. It's a well known one. I don't think anyone posted it, could be wrong.

“Ain’t nothin going to happen until you do something”
My advice is, if an old pugilist says that to you…walk away.

“Tail light guarantee.. guaranteed until you can’t see my tail lights”
I never liked that one.

“Fuzzy side up” I still say that occasionally when my customer asks me how’s it going.

“That boy is tough as nails”

Hah! Reminded me of what I would say when I was in the siding business. "Puttin' the skin on"

If I had a penny for every time a homeowner would come outside on a beautiful day and say, "Great working weather", I'd be a rich man. I guess "If I had a penny for every..." is another old saying. But what I wanted to say is my standard reply to the "Great working weather" was always, "Great fishing weather. We work in all the weather"

Re: Old sayings or sayings from old folks

An old truck driver once showed up to the job on a foggy morning and said, "My eyes feel like two pee holes in the snow". I knew exactly what he meant

And Oscar Wilde’s “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery….that mediocrity can pay to greatness”

My question… is mimetic desire good or bad?
… truck site good, facebook bad. Jk

On a side note. A question for special-k. Hey Tim, “if you have a hammer does everything look like nail?”
